Hi starnacstarnac said:A fire will make all the difference. I love seeing pictures of the chooks on the book of face. Shame they are now on lockdown same as us. Hope Mr Cheery is feeling better soon
Yes it is a shame about the chickens
I do miss their little noises outside the door. But I confess it's slightly less time consuming getting things done in the garden as they do rather interfere!
Nipped out, got chilly, came home to find a friend who in normal times I often have tea and cake with, had sent us a 'cake card', with actual cake in! So I've just had a piece with a nice cup of tea, and am now contemplating another bath
Gosh I love being off work

I second the motion to name it 'Boot Room'...

Glorious fire Cheery - what a lovely golden glow it gives the room. How about Lobby for your entrance area? ... or the Cheery Gaff Portal 😂

Love that pic! Is that a bookcase you've got immediately above the fire? Or am I seeing things?
I think I vote for boot room
plus, you know, it will have actual boots in it, probably

Ha, thank you for all your suggestions! I have discussed with Mr Cheery, and we are currently favouring 'portal'
Although in reality it will probably remain the offshot, or occasionally "by the back door"
Yes that's a bookcase KC! Not entirely sure it's wise, but it's such a small fireplace (which NEVER has a fire roaring that much in it - that was a masking tape induced test apparently). That room has many bookcases in!8 -
Morning MSE chums

The day is full of possibility! I'm sure my positive feeling will stop as soon as I get out of bed
Trying to concoct a plan for the day. Mr Cheery has got up to ring the docs - they told him a week ago they wanted to speak to him again today, but refuse to book ANY advance appointments at the minute so he's doing the usual ringing-at-8am scrum. So he may have to go and see them later, and also has a blood test at 2pm, and I've got to drop a urine sample off at the docs, and nip to the chemist, so it may be a day of medical errands!
Hey ho. So, a list
* drop off weeeee sample
* put dry clothes away and tidy the bedroom a bit
* stick on a Christmas film and sew some more present bags (ooh, I'll be doing that in the study so I could light the fire, how festive!)
That's it I think, might shift some more woodchip? We'll see what the weather's like...9 -
Well I did two of those things, and some different things, so all good!
We dropped off our his n her urine samples at the docs - for some reason the receptionist didn't find that as hilarious as we did
In fact, she said "has someone told you to bring those in?"
Er, no love, we had a few spare and thought you might like them
Good grief. I was laughing with my sister - and apparently her docs has a box outside that says "this box is for urine samples only! Please only put samples in here if you have been asked to!"
Er, is this a thing - people dropping off unrequested urine samples at the surgery?!
Anyway, it's done now. Mr Cheery's blood test was slightly delayed by the man in front of him having some kind of health crisis and them having to wait for the paramedics
but that's done now too, so we're trying not to think about health issues as much as possible until after Christmas.
We grabbed a takeaway cuppa and a mince pie from our favourite cafe on the way back - they're theoretically only shut til 27th but who knows when we'll all land in tier 4 at this rate so wanted to bung a final few quid their way (completely selfless of course, not remotely motivated by mince pies).
Had a nice chat with a neighbour who popped a card round - didn't want to keep him too long as he was stood in the rain and of course I couldn't invite him in, but it was good to see him. We never need to go past his house, but he often walks past ours with the dog, and usually stops for a chat if I'm out. They only moved here last year, so it's nice to have some other relative newcomers. Of course we've not actually got round to having a cuppa yet
but we all fully intend to as soon as we can.
There's someone else new in the village who I've heard of but not met yet as well, who this neighbour has got to know, so hopefully we can all meet up.
Other than that, I've had the new fire burning today
and have watched a couple of films and sewed about a million present bags
Settled on a MUCH easier design than the ridiculous drawstring nonsense I was doing before, and with the overlocker they're really quick. Trying to make sure we've got enough for Christmas day - just the two of us, but we tend to buy each other lots of small things.
Unexpected bonus - I've now "wrapped" all of Mr Cheery's presents (apart from two i just remembered, and another two I currently can't find) and it took me about 10 minutes, instead of a couple of hours!
Of course I had all that sewing, but I won't have to do that again!
We even went into the loft to find some more of my fabric stash and now have some excellent fake fur ones

So, plan for tomorrow...
* take cake to next door neighbour
* take present to other neighbour's daughter
* tidy bedroom and change sheets
* think about Christmas dinner prep (and possibly even DO some prep!)
* er, figure out what we're going to eat Christmas dinner OFF, since we have no table
* more present bags!8 -
Cheery, that sounds brilliant, including unwanted wee samples
Your selflessness in buying mince pies is admirable too, I love it
