in Credit cards
Hi,
I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this message but I need your help. My husband has had his Switch card cloned. As soon as he realised something was wrong, he told Nat West who immediately cancelled his card. They then told him to wait until all the transactions had gone through before going to the police. We have already lost £350 and at the moment the last transaction was at 6.30pm on Wednesday and Nat West only cancelled his card at 2pm yesterday. So lots more to look forward to...
So basically, the bank have told him that we might get our money back when they catch the person who did it... in other words never
I've found some info on the internet when people said that their bank refunded all the money straight away so why can't Nat West do it???? Also, they know that all the transactions going through have not been made by my husband so why can't they stop them????
Thanks for your help
Celine

Nat West are talking rubbish. You will be refunded for fraudulent transactions on your card, whether or not they are caught (unless you have been grossly negligent such as writing your pin number on a lost card in which case the bank might be reluctant to pay up).
Now the card is canceled no new transactions should be possible but there may be the odd one which has already taken place which has not shown up on your account yet.
Don't worry about it. I suggest you speak to somebody else at Nat West and get the correct answers.
For credit cards the average time to be refunded seems to be about 6 weeks. I assume debit cards will be much the same.0 -
Agree with Reaper.
Bit surprised about the 'don't call the Police until....' bit tho'.0 -
'Debit Card Fraud -- Who is responsible' recent thread...
I cannot find Natwest's T&C online. Read your T&C thoroughly.0 -

I had my Smile debit card cloned and my account cleared out, with the telltale sign that there was a withdrawel just before midnight, and another just after. Additionally I suspected it had happened to me at a cashpoint on Tottenham Court Road which at the time was a fraud hotspot and possibly still is.
Smile were very helpful. I only found out when my card was declined in a shop. I phone Smile who blocked my card. The next day they gave me a temporary overdraft increase, free of charge, so I had some money to use. A few days later I received a letter stating they had investigated my case and that the money would be refunded to me in full. I was back up and running with a new card within a week of the incident. Top marks to Smile!0 -
I had a similar problem and £450 was withdrawn from my Citibank Account. As soon as I informed them, they cancelled my card and issued me with a new card. They send me a letter to sign and enter a Crime reference number (from the police) and within a week they refunded all the amount. So I am still with them!0
