My dad has had great fun chasing up parts of our family tree. He got into it after someone contacted him a few years ago after an aunt died without a will a few years ago! He never knew she existed - she was illegitmite, born just before WWI. It was wierd - she grew up and lived her life within ~10 miles of our family but no-one knew she existed! He has also tracked the male line (who's surname we have) quite far back as its quite a rare surname! Its a name that apparently comes from Hypno's part of the country.Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

I think KP has a diary and I just slip in the odd post to confuse people by the looks of itIn fact I must make sure I don't post on KP's diary or I really could confuse people on there

I'm downright embarrassed. I'm so sorry!!!! I knew about that potential mixup, and in fact I went back to see KP's diary to check I wasn't doing it. Talk about seeing what you expect to see. I am *so* sorry. See, my brain is full of births marriages and deaths. No excuse. Very sorry.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I also have some stuff from a great aunt about the Dutch and Polish Jewish part of the family, who moved over to England pre-WWI to supposed safety, but unfortunately some of them were killed in a Zeppelin raid on Southend seafront, while their sons who were fighting in France at the time all survived.
Would like to know more about my mum's side, they are mostly Scottish but some came from France originally. Tried joining Genes Reunited but didn't get very far with that.
Its great to get to know the characters, isn't it. But how sad about the refugees.... The Scottish/French connection sounds interesting too - one of my Irish connections came via Scotland. I have *no* concept of how to go about researching in France. As far as Genes Reunited is concerned - well, it can unite you with people who've already done some research, but thats about ityou notice I didn't include it in my beginner's list!

Mr.B's grandad was a mayor and for his birthday next year i am putting together a folder of his cuttings in a cumbrian newspaper. Hope he likes it and i think it will be a nice thing to pass on as well.
Modern technology is good isn't it?:D
The Mormon info is great! Very weird reasoning behind it, but great to have so much stacked in one place. And I'm dying to get to Lancashire County REcord Office - they have loads listed about those Catholic agricultural labourers I mentioned, I'm dying to see what they've got stashed away.
Despair - I keep losing this post, don't know why. Anyway, what you're doing for Mr B is great - and thank heavens for modern tech, is all I can say (tho I wish I hadn't lost this post twice in trying to say it2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Isn't that amazing .... sad for her, when you think about it. We must have quite a few of those in Liverpool - two or three relatives have died in accidents on the river (tugboatmen) and often the children end up in orphanages, and the family loses touch.
How fortunate you are to have a rare surname! The rarest I have is one of the Irish ones, the Waterloo soldier - his name is Lappin, which everyone thinks is French, but isn't. Are you going to try to take it any further back, taka?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Nothing to apologise for at all....I only pointed it out so you didn't think KP was ignoring your question.

The other branches are far harder - too many very common surnames! :rotfl: We know some stuff on my mum's side as a relative found references to one of our relatives ~150yrs ago (completely accidentally!) in some company historical records he had to go through as part of his job! :rotfl:

Taka, that sounds great - you have to take those happy accidents when you find them, absolutely. 2nd half of the 1700s is where I can get back to, but thats a really common name and its only cos they stayed in one place! And of course as you know when you get back to those times, you have to actually *go* places and look at, y'know, paper! Time and money are involved, sigh ....
Today, I have a couple of hours work, then in the evening I'm going to part two of the Pos Thinking course, so I'll pop in to do a veggie shop at Tesco, I have a £1 off voucher for £5 veg and fruit that expires on 22 March.
Otherwise its the usual - check online banking, do a bit of admin and a few phone calls, try to do the washing up and a bit of spring cleaning, blah blah.
Popping on here too! Hope everyone has a good day.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Checking online banking, my VC profits and an Amazon sale both came in today, total profit £20.22, and the phone interview cheque is still waiting to be cashed.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
