Now I'll rant.. On Wednesday 28th Feb I had a Waitrose delivery booked for 10-11 am so when it got to 11.15, having made a reasonable allowance for weather delays, I rang the Waitrose shop that deals with deliveries in my area to be told that they had cancelled all deliveries for that day, no rescheduling was available but customers could collect their orders from the store if they wished.
    Seriously?
15 minutes is a "reasonable allowance for weather delays"?

Well having read the OP then, yes, I'd have hoped Waitrose would have called.
Yes, that would have been proactive customer service.

Boils down to the fact the OP should have ordered earlier than Wednesday 28th.

I knew this weather was coming last week, so I stocked up on somethings beforehand.
    Me too.
We actually did a shop last Sunday for the essentials - bread, milk, beer ;) - and didn't leave the house from Tuesday around 6pm until yesterday after lunchtime (apart from refilling the wild bird food).

The OP states they never have mobile signal so Waitrose probably did ring, just not the home number. Depending on how the system populates the caller may not get access to all the numbers on the file, just a list of numbers and names.

About as unhappy as I am that Amazon Prime aren't likely to deliver any time soon - predicted delivery for orders placed today is Monday rather than tomorrow. I pay for a next day service but sometimes crap happens and I'm certainly not going to stomp my feet or threaten to take my business elsewhere over it. I'll just slurp my mulled wine, snuggle up on the sofa with the sprog and enjoy our pyjama day.

Well, I placed an Amazon order yesterday - all Prime products and I'm a Prime member. They have all been despatched but I won't be getting them delivered til Monday  I'm so upset / disappointed / appalled at the service. How am I to cope?

    - This will only allow me 5 days to wrap the Niederegger marzipan in time for my Dad's birthday next Saturday.

    - My candle lighter broke yesterday so now I'm faced with having to use matches to light my Yankee Candles for 2 days.

    - I ordered a new candle as I felt that "crackling wood fire" would be appropriate for the current conditions. "Fresh cut roses", "peony" or "cassis" are not going to create the "mood" in the house I was hoping to achieve. I might have to try setting fire to the coffee table to see if that will work as a substitute.

    - My husband gets nervous if he doesn't have a full supply of all the filter media for the aquarium. He's replacing the carbon filter today so, with no spare in the cabinet, he will be chewing his nails to the quick.

At least I now have something constructive to do today. I'm going to sit on my sofa, with my mulled wine, and post a host of in-depth one star reviews to express my disappointment and highlight the inconvenience Amazon are subjecting a loyal customer to :T

    Possibly.

I was quite surprised, yesterday, when the Waitrose delivery driver phoned me on my landline as I am so used to pretty much everyone ringing me on my mobile. He'd got lost. They, generally, inform me of progress by text. I've got caller display etc so my mobile is a lot easier to get through on and I find delivery drivers always call that

I checked on my MyWaitrose settings and they do have both of my numbers. Let's hope that the OP gave them all theirs, too!
  • Cat food on toast! Yummy. ;)

Sardines on toast! A favourite lunch for me!

seriously - our bins were due to be emptied about 7 am Thursday. Because of the depth of snow here, I thought I'd check the council website Wednesday pm. It said that collections were cancelled for that day and to check again tomorrow. I 'phoned them and they were very helpful. The contractor had not given them any information for the next day, but they advised me to put the bin out anyway.

I don't begrudge the fact our bin is still sitting outside unemptied. (I don't expect it anytime soon).

The staff who work for our collection contractor are really good. They work really quickly and try not to hold up traffic unnecessarily. (Our road is very narrow). If I'm trying to get out behind them, I follow, but not so close as to pressurise them. (That would be stupid*). When we get to the end of our road I always get a cheery acknowledgement form them. They do a job really well that I wouldn't touch with a bargepole! If they can't work in this weather I accept that decision.

    * A former boss (who should have known better!) of my wife once got into a stand-off with a bin lorry. He thought they should have reversed - and he ended up receiving a lot of, in my opinion, justified verbal abuse. He couldn't understand why he should give way and they shouldn't! It was clearly mush easier for him to get out of their way than for them to get out of his way...

Is it just me - or does anyone else think its a real poor show when a poster doesnt hear what they want to hear so deletes their OP and all of their responses ...

I agree. I think it's OK if the forum (or OP) is potentially open to legal action of some sort, but the OP's embarrassment (or OP's "remorse") shouldn't be enough to allow a whole post to be deleted.

Posters give up their free time to help give advice. For some (like me - I'm retired) it's a bit of a hobby. But others do it because they sincerely want to give the OP good advice. It's disrespectful to those posters.

It's also unhelpful to people browsing the site for advice.

I suggest you throw yourself on the floor, beat your hands and feet against said floor and scream loudly.

Then pick up your glass of mulled wine - and enjoy.:D

In addition to the quoted advice you might want to try chewing the carpet too.

Given your username - can't you just order a delivery of 20 hamburgers?

EDIT: Just to be clear - I'm referring to LilElvis, not Pollycat!
Oh - sorry - forgot the whole point about failed deliveries...

Can't chew the carpet as we don't have any - all wood/stone. Some scorching on the lounge floor after my failed attempt to set light to the coffee table. The smell isn't the "crackling wood fire" that I was aiming for - husband's fault for pouring nail polish remover on as an accelerant.

Burgers sound good but the husband is risking life and limb to pick up a curry at the moment. As the idiot decided to go in his rear wheel drive rather than take my 4WD there's every chance I'll be eating cold onion bhajis sat in the chairs at A&E in a bit

Is he driving a BMW? Hope all goes well and you don't have to visit A&E.

Is it worth ordering some hamburgers any way? Curry and hamburgers sound good to me!
