Shops do love putting a lot of trust on their customers. I wonder how much stock they lose from buyers *accidently* putting things in baskets without scanning.

UK supermarkets love to analyse. They'll know exactly how much extra stuff goes missing when they introduce scan as you shop to a store. As for trust, that's a bit of joke. I've lost count of the times I've been selected for a 'random check' when I use scan as you shop, and I seem to be selected for these checks much more frequently when I'm in a hoodie with crazy hair vs a smart coat and shiny shoes!

Odd thread. The OP was charged incorrectly and the money was refunded without any problems. Oh cruel world!

Well stop falling for Tesco's job destroying initiatives then. Use a checkout like everyone else.
    Everyone else?

That is not true now, is it?

Where I live, the assistants mainly deserve to lose their jobs. Chewing gum, chatting to each other, holding their hands out for the money while scowling and not speaking, packing badly...

Even the Waitrose here seems to struggle to employ anyone who you would like to be served by.

That could soon be sorted with some helpful advice like.."Young lady could you possibly stop chewing gum whilst communicating to your young friend and would you be so kind to pack my bags whilst i see if i have the correct money for you...theirs a poppet."

but....given I asked could I have done anything in the shop at the time?
if you think you have paid but the machine didn't print a receipt.....how do you raise an issue?
the person in charge of that area insisted I hadn't paid , I said I had, but it was clear that as the machine said I hadn't I had no grounds............. I want to know if there was a way at that time to challenge the machine.......who would I ask to raise that challenge, it's not the person in charge of that area or the immediate manager............. pay twice and sort it out later is a queer way to go about it.
I had followed the instructions on the reader, it indicated i'd paid, I removed my card.... no receipt... then the screen said I had not paid ...so I had to pay again at the insistence of the Tesco employee............ I didn't want to pay again, so what could I have done other than pay and spend the next 72hours calling my bank then Tesco, worrying about getting a refund.

I use the scanners as a budget control, I know how much I spend and don't over buy the ''bargains'' it saves me loads, I used to have an average spend of £120, a week ... now down to £80 approx........ if you go to the check out it's too late, you have already got it.
once I get to £80 or there abouts I stop shopping, look at what I bought and leave, it's not the veg or meat that sends up the bills in the first few rows it's the biscuits and booze ... try it.

I work for Tesco and I'd assume the process is similar for Scan as You Shop (our store doesn't have it yet) but the Team Leader in charge of the checkouts *might* be able to use the back office system to check if a payment has been processed or not.

The only thing I can think of is if the terminal had said 'paid' but you've removed your card too early; I've done that in a hurry before now (you think I'd know better!); my banking app showed both amounts as 'pending'.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

More likely to result in them smashing my eggs, I think, some people are just too surley to be helped. Better to complain when it happens, and to use self service more often.

It is one of the problems of such low unemployment, I suppose.

Very different to when I worked in the same job, when our supervisors would have had us off the floor like a flash if we had acted like that.

I don't really see it is much of a big issue to pay twice because it will be obvious the second payment was incorrect and it's easy to get a refund.
You could get something like a Monzo or Starling account and whenever you make a payment you get an instant notification on your smart phone. So you would then know what has gone through as soon as it happens.

That seems a strange way to budget. It seems you would do much better by making a list of what you need and make sure you buy just that instead of setting an arbitrary budget and stop buying when you hit that value.

Also why are you using so many full stops? Is the button broken on your keyboard :rotfl:

Monzo and Starling just show authorisations as an actual debit and would show the OP making 3 payments - even though two were simply authorisations.

Many traditional banks show authorisations as a pending item and remove it when the matching debit arrives.

That's because we have generation scum...remember when kids started with text talk, its gone down hill ever since.

Just look at the face book selling pages...the way people communicate is shocking,my spelling is truly awful, but some of these people just throw random letters at a computer screen and assume people will be able to decipher the meaning.

Sadly lots of youngsters today seem to have a poor attitude to life.
