Maddie, we are past cards now, although OH did reduce me to tears this morning thanking me for looking after him so well for the last last 20+ years, he could not remember just how many years it was!!
Neighbour was going for his paper, so I got him to get our TV choice and some spuds, that was the one thing I forgot last week. I do have some instant mash which does in an emergency, I usually use it to thicken soup.
We have had a couple of flurries of snow. Managed to do the freezer audit, have enough meat for the next month. Several bags of apples and blackberries to use up and also courgette, which I will put in some soup. Took out a chicken carcass to turn into stock, have also got some mixes beans which can go in along with leek, carrot and onion.0 -
Just spoken to Grump.... his usual morning phone call on his break. He is working on a new build school which is replacing an old school that will be eventually knocked down.... Picture this, its -6 and the kids in the old school are on the playground... boys and girls wearing short socks and the boys wearing shorts.
Those Welsh kids are a hardy lot. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
happy anniversary to the csarinas.
It has been snowing overnight and there are still snow flurries. There is an amber snow warning so trying not to go out.
I had planned a birthday shopping trip with middle dd today but her flight did not get her home till four in the morning so she is going to phone me later to discuss what to do. Unless she really wants to do a shopping trip I will suggest she stays safe and warm at home and just relaxes and we will catch up on Saturday when I have booked a surprise afternoon birthday tea for four of us.
Still have lots of leek and potato soup to eat and will do a chicken and vegetable dish for tonight. Still waiting for my pressure cooker which would be really useful in this weather.
Hollyharvey
Fingers crossed for you.
Hugs to all0 -
Afternoon all,
We had about 4 ins of snow during the night, DD3 and DS3 made it to work cross country in his 4WD, DD1 was fine as on a main road. DD2 and DS1 were not so lucky......his car died on his way up from Cork on Monday night so he was heading for airport to pick up a rental, DD2 took him to airport and they both got caught in traffic on return journey........3 hours for a normal 30..45 minute journey. All safe now. Sun shining at present but more snow on the way. Luckily we have lots of food and fuel.
Holly.....so glad that things are working better for you.
Speky.....sorry about the job.....something better will turn up.
Csarina....happy anniversary.
Take care all, nasty weather ahead.

Afternoon - the sun is still shining here and no sign of snow yet despite the forecast.
The Central Belt now has a 'Red' weather warning which means danger to life or buildings. My DM has taken to sending me video recordings, done on her iPhone, of her street. The £10.00 I invested in 'Smartphones for Seniors' book has obviously done some good. :j
A neighbour called round with a lovely bunch of tulips and a birthday card, only two days late. She was rather upset at getting the date wrong but I was thrilled that she 1) remembered at all and 2) bothered.
My freezer dive was successful, pulled out two lovely thick proper meaty hamburgers and some oven chips. Now cooking away with a side dish of baked beans - I feel as if I'm a teenager again.
I've brough in enough wood to burn for three weeks though the very high wind is causing a fast burn even with the air vent almost closed. At least I'm very cosy.
Csarina - happy anniversary to you both. Great memories of long ago times.
I hope everyone is safe and warm.0 -
Well sun is shining but the wind is blowing and the snow is still with us as its now around -4c outside .I made a big pot of curried veggie soup manly celery plus a few odds and ends chucked in and bulked it out a bit with some broken bits of pasta so plenty of hot soup to keep me warm.I also made some cheese chilli scones to go with it so good comfort eating to keep the chill out for the next few days
Big bowl of porridge for breakfast, probably not a skinny 'healthy' menu but its made to keep me warm and fed and in this weather I certainly don't intend to be cold
I have resisted the ginger nuts though:(:( as I am sticking to my Lent abstinance and I really longer for a couple with my cuppa at 11:(. Had an orange instead ,but its not the same
Sorry the job didn't happen Speky but I bet your Gran is a happy ladythe macaroons sound lovely
Right time to find my knitting and watch a bit of mindles TV ,although I am working my way through Odessey and really enjoying it
Take care and keep warm chums,

Hi everyone
A bit late as Mr Fix It managed to have his oncology review appointment this morning. The good news is his levels have not risen and so the medication seems to be holding the spread at bay at present. How long it will stay like that is anyone's guess. But we are happy that the status quo remains for now.
Dad called in as he wanted Mr Fix It to tax his car on t'internet. He was a completely different person today even asked how Mr Fix It was. I just don't understand how he can be so nice one day and then so mean and thoughtless on another. ( mind you he did want something )
Anyway I have filled up the bird feeder and put some bread and soggy biscuits out. I nearly got mugged by three squirrels for those, they were waiting at the top of the garden, watching my every move :rotfl:.
We had a little snow early this morning, which then froze. At the moment the sun is out but now the wind seems to be getting stronger. I think it's the lull before the storm which is due tomorrow.
Tea tonight will be bacon, sausage etc and some mushrooms left over from yesterdays stir fry.
HollyH I have everything crossed that things work out for you.
Csarina Happy Anniversary
Nelski and TA I also have some ironing that requires my attention, but I am hoping that if I ignore it long enough it will disappear :rotfl:.
Hope everyone stays safe and warm. Hugs to all and thank you for listening to me moan/rant. You really are all such lovely people on here :A:A.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Hi Afternoon
Woke up to a couple of inches of snow this morning. Went to work as usual, but there were some heavy snow showers and staff had to travel home again so made the decision to close and all the children had been picked up by 11.am
Had a nice lazy afternoon so far....beans on toast and Homeland. We're closed again tomorrow so I'll even get a lie-in....on a Thursday!
We're apparently now on a red weather warning from 3.30pm onwards with more snow forecast and strong winds. The wind when I came home from work was so icy it stung the small piece of my face peeping out.0
