  • Morning all, it is well below freezing here. Yesterday's snow, only a light ish covering, has frozen solid and the roads are terrible - tge main roads will be ok but not the side roads. I'm going to work a bit later than usual, in the hope that traffic and footfall will have crunched it up a bit. I am scared of falling

Holly, I'm relieved to read that your GP has been helpful.

Speky, a shame about that job but very positive feedback and your perfect job is going to out there waiting for the right moment.

I worked late last night and coming home was chilly to say the least. We have brilliant public transport but that's during the day, the frequency of buses goes down in the evening and even with layers, a windproof coat, hat, gloves and a scarf, I was shaking by the time OH collected me from the road nearest the bus stop. It wasn't helped by him needing to defrost the car first. I went to bed quite early as cold and tired so I've just caught up with Back in Time for Tea, was fun.

Hope everyone has a good day, and that everyone is still in one piece by the end of the day!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone,

Woke up to a thick layer of snow and it’s still coming down, we have no plans to go anywhere today but have a couple of things planned for tomorrow so am hoping it doesnt stick around.

HH good to read that there is a plan in place and your GP sounds a good un, sending all positive thoughts your way.
Am sorry that you didn’t get the job Speky but am sure the universe has something better waiting for you further down the line.

Have some chicken marinating in the fridge and will add veg & rice to make a spicy bowl type meal for tea.

    Right, off to build a snowman.........maybe :D

Have a good day folks x
  • Morning all

CHS has been dropped at work, the main road is clear, getting to it is fun!

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Holly, I am so pleased that sense has prevailed and at least if you have to be admitted to hospital it will be on a voluntary basis, three cheers for your GP!!

We had quite a show storm around 5pm last night, until about an hour ago the snow was pristine in the close, the paper man has been in and someone else has gone out....it looks as if there is about an inch lying.

The settee arrived yesterday, the chaps unpacked it and put the castors on, of course I tried it out, put the arm down last night and used it as a chaise long, very comfortable, I have not put the cover on it, just the quilt on the back. OH is pleased with it so thats great.

Very cold again this morning, so glad I do not have to go out toad in the hole tonight with carrots and cauli, will do it in the remoska, low salt gravy with it.

Oh I almost forgot, today is our wedding anniversary.........it was a fRiday and we were married at 9.15am at Musselburgh. One of our witnesses did a smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast and we travelled down to Harrogate on a freebee weekend for our 'honeymoon'. Someone had spilt the beans and there was champagne, flowers and chocolates in our room. We would normally be going out for either lunch or tea, but no way with the snow lying as it is, will have to wait for better weather.

    Morning

Holly That sounds like a major step forward for you, you must be really relieved its good to hear positive stories about GPs most people just moan about them (including me :)

TA get that ironing done or you will end up with a year old pile like me

No major bad weather here this morning its a bit icy but even that is disappearing rapidly in the sun. I have a friend in Maidstone who has been snowed in for 2 days now so hope Jackie is staying put and keeping warm.

Working today but all from home so if the beast sneaks over to the west I wont have to contend with it.

Food wise I need to have a rummage in the freezer but I do have some puff pastry in the fridge so In thinking about a mince pie or pasty. ill make a few cheese straws too to have with soup.

Best crack on have a great day all :)

Happy Anniversary csarina, enjoy your meal when you can get out for it.
Glad something has been put in place for your Holly.
Sorry you didn't get the job Speky, as others have said there will be something out there with your name on.

Well, it's been an eventful morning. I got up early to check the council website - it was showing that the schools were open. At 6.30 I checked the train times and the one I would normally get was cancelled. Quick shower and out of the door to get the 7.09 which did turn up.

Got to work to text some parents that a trip was cancelled today due to the poor weather conditions and the phones were ringing away, folk wanting to know if the school was closed. It was 7.35am for goodness sake, do they think we live there?

Anyway at 7.55 the website showed that the schools were all closed so had to send a text to everyone giving them the good news and set off for home. The trains are now all cancelled but luckily a young teacher turned up and he gave me a lift home. All before 9am!!

So, I'm going to chill out and warm up then do some housework (maybe).

Hope you're all safe and warm. Take care. XX

If this is what it's like living in Siberia then remind me never to go! The village is now cut off with no chance of getting out until the snow plough and gritters visit us! The penalty for living at the top of the steepest hill around! Good job we have nowhere to go and am so pleased we had the foresight to do the top up shop on Monday before the snow arrived. At the moment we are having a lull but it is forecast to return. Such joy! xx

ps Happy Anniversary to the CSARINA'S x

  • Good morning chums and Day two of the I'm-fed-up-of-being-stuck-at-home :) no way can I even think of getting my car off the drive and about 4+inches of snow outside means I am not going anywhere for awhile.

I need to use a stick to walk with, and so tottering around in the snow at my age is just daft, and asking for a broken bone or two.

My son-in-law Simon bless him and DGS Henry braved the weather to walk into the town centre, and phoned to see if I needed anything.

I did and they have just brought me some supplies of cheese and spuds.Last night I was grating the cheese on my small grater in the hope of ekeing it out :) but now have a good chunk sitting in my fridge along with some potatoes :) with these I can last out for at least another week without fresh stuff.

I have fruit in the conservatory and green veg in the freezer. Just going to make some veg soup from stuff in the freezer for lunch.

The boys are all at home as all the school are shut for the next few days. My DD is manning the phones at the shop as her boss and the other staff can't get in, (she lives only about half a mile from work) and she walked to work this morning as the roads are pretty bad.The sun is shining but its still below freezing here according to my outside garden barometer it -5c at the moment so I doubt the snow will go just yet, and we are forecast some more.

DGS Jack managed to get a train into London last night for his music gig that he was going to with his brother Ben who had come down to meet up with him from Norwich.Ben got him on the last train out of london last night at 11.05 and he arrived in our local station at just gone 1,00a.m. a normal 50 minute journey.:eek:

I stayed awake and kept texting him to see where the train was :) He may be 18 now but I still worry that he was safe and warm

Sensibly he got a cab from the station home as by then the snow was pretty heavy and a mini blizzard was blowing.

The joys of our weather eh. DGS Danny cannot get a flight home from NYC this week so we won't be seeing him:(:(

But we are all safe and well which is the most important thing at the moment.

H/Harvey its good to hear that your Dr is on the case and you will get the help you need without the pressure which must make things more difficult.

I hope everyone is warm and dry and safe Nelski your Mum sounds like she is hard work ,as your 'adopted Mum' I am a lot easier going :) point me towards the gin and I am a happy old lady :):):)

Chin up chums it will soon be spring time :D:D:D

  • Well, that was an experience.

    Morning all.

Woke this morning to a white wash, no doubt like you all did. I tried to go to the gym at 6am but I couldn't get out my drive. Tried again at 7.30am and managed out. My car is really bad in the snow so I took my time.

Dinner tonight at my grans, so I'll phone to see if she needs anything brought in.

I made low carb, high fat macaroons last night. They look delicious, not tired them yet.

HH - I'm glad you eventually got an option which you're more comfortable with.
    csarina - Happy anniversary!!

Thank you all for your kind notes on the job front too.

A couple of blizzards here yesterday, but soon stopped, we are due to get the worst tomorrow afternoon and Friday. OH is going to test the pavements by collecting a newspaper, but dear dog has hurt a front leg (again:() when he comes back we will decide if she needs a trip to the vets, no walks for her today anyway. I have to go for a scan on my kidneys at lunchtime, local hospital only thank goodness, so the plan is for OH to drop me there and me make my own way back on foot or by bus depending on the state of the pavements, will use elbow crutch for a bit of stability rather than walking stick.

nmlc - thank you for the new thread. Holly great news about your GP arranging forward care, I will be rooting for you. Ladies with selfish parents - hugs to you and endless supplies of patience to you all. csarina - happy anniversary, it was ours on 25th and I forgot to get a card when out:o, but OH was lovely about it:D Speky - as others have said sorry about the job, but hopefully it will work out to your advantage in the end.

Hugs and spoons and keep warm wishes, take care all.
