Evening Money Savers,
Useful low key day here. Bread has been baked, next week's meals chosen from my mega meal plan & an online grocery order placed. Was all set to make use of a £4 off £40 minimum spend voucher, when I found an £8 off £50 from a different supermarket, so went with that instead.
Did a bit of a bed linen inventory.....well that's probably over-egging what it actually was. We haven't had guests since back before the pandemic & I wanted to make sure we have sufficient decent bed linen for an additional 3 beds. Have ordered 4 new pillowcases, but thankfully that's all we need, as our House & Garden Savings Pot badly needs building up, not spending.
Oh, & I've FINALLY finished my sister's Christmas mittens. A fiddly pattern, but interesting to knit..I hope she will like them. The pattern is by the Norwegian designer duo Arne & Carlos. I'd like to knit more pairs at some point but make up my own design for the front & leave the back plain, as that would mean they'd knit up a lot quicker.
Just me & the cats tonight, as Mr F on a late shift to oversee an event..I'm.going to watch 'The English' & read. Blanket & hwb at the ready!

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!11 -
Sorry to read about your fall - it's that split second of misfortune that I always look back on after a mishap and I then keep thinking of how I might have avoided the incident. I walked into a pillar at a station once - I was hurrying along, dragging a suitcase and trying to read the departure board .... that really hurt my head and my pride.
we are keeping an eye on energy use here too - the smart meter is our motivator as it is really scary. We haven't used our oven for weeks - air fryer can do most things we want and OH's specialty is one or two pot hob cooking. Tumble dryer is out of bounds and heated airier is used when needed. I spent the day and evening at my dad's on Sunday which saved a fortune in heating 😸

Oh Foxgloves those mittens are beautiful such a lot of work and skill I am sure they will be much appreciated. I am definitely just a plain knitter and dabble at crochet. Just finished last of Christmas pressies so have started crocheting a blanket in a wave pattern I am using up all odds and ends of wool, it will take me all winter but at least I should be warm under it as it grows!!
