We went from an open fire that used to warm the bedroom via the chimney breast went through. We changed to a gas fire with light bulbs to emulate flames in the mid 70s - upstairs was freezing. When we got married my Dh moved from a centrally heated house with a colour tv to ours which boasted said gas fire and a black and white tv….that was 1978. We had bought a little electric radiator by that time to stand on the landing 👍 To say it was a culture shock for Dh was an understatement 😂😂 I first had central heating when we moved into a little terraced house mid 1979….I thought it was a palace, even though it was smaller than my childhood home it was centrally heated 👍January spends - £587.586

I think smaller and cosy are better than large and cold. We keep saying we want to downsize as soon as humanly possible.milann said:We went from an open fire that used to warm the bedroom via the chimney breast went through. We had the coal fire in the long room when I was little and I shared a double bed with my sister until my eldest sister moved out,I remember having an oil filled plug in radiator at the end of the bed which was squeezed in to the space because it wasn't much bigger than a box room, they have a certain smell when they heat up and if we use one at work it takes me right back. Mum would put it on before bed to warm the room then we would have a hot water bottle each.
My Mum and Dad didn't get central heating until we had all moved out and I moved into a flat with a gas fire in the living room,we used a supersur paraffin heater in the rest of the flat and just used to wheel it around from room to room 😀Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8946 -
We had central heating and a colour TV when I was a child. I’m starting to feel privileged 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

Think its all about our age....lol. Coloured TV didn't come about until I was a teenager in my family. We didn't have a TV at all until I was 3. Apparently my mum & dad got one to be able to watch the 1960 Olympic games.Sun_Addict said:We had central heating and a colour TV when I was a child. Wow, those mittens are amazing work, what a fabulous gift. I’ve never knit that colour work, only just following my first chart now. It’s always good to challenge yourself to do something different .4

I think I may have started it. Sorry. But I am a Yorkshire woman so it might be in the genes to go with your theme. Very cold here this morning grateful for the CH. I am usually very frugal with it but OH full of cold so really not worth the risk for him to get too chilly I thinkMakingabobor2 said:We are starting to sound like that sketch from Monty Python aren't we?? Hope he feels better soon. I agree, keeping warm is essential to our health....especially at our age..lolTescodealqueen said:

Haa whilst catching up in here my border collie boy is not as daft as he makes out, he's just found the warmest place in the room by the electric clothes airer.
