I suppose I'm so warm at night because I usually have the dog curled up at the side of me and a cat on my pillow keeping my head warm 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

Yes, I can see how an abundance of pets would help 😂 We just have a duvet and two blankets, and of course I'm surgically attached to my hot water bottle at all times which helps 😂
Can't work out exact costs as we're not on mains gas, but I budget £167 a month usually, so averaged over the year that's about £5.50 per day (but we only pay when the tank is topped up, so it's not an exact number as it's not always the same time of year).5 -
We're still on storage heaters - they genuinely aren't too bad at all once you get properly to grips with them. At the moment we're having no issues keeping the front room at around 18 - 19 degrees, and currently it's costing us around £4 - £5 a day - although that might increase a little as the cold snap continues. My little monitor reckoned costs were at about £3.50 at 8am today - plus the SC of course. We did have the bedroom storage heater on for a couple of nights over the weekend as we wanted to check it still worked OK - it did, and we were too flipping hot!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Storage heaters we had them in our married quarter. Not sure we used them other than to put the aquarium on! We were out at work all day on 12 hour shifts so they were cold by the time we got home so we used a calor gas heater and managed to nearly kill ourselves by sealing up the windows and chimney so there was no ventilation! Foolishness of youth. My sister has used seventy pounds worth of gas on her prepayment meter this last week so I think estimates of ten pound a day in the cold snap are about right. Our heating overnight is set at 6 degrees just for frost as I can’t bear to be in a heated bedroom. I was late out of bed this morning because of very disturbed nights sleep and woke with a headache because the heating kicked in at 7am set at 18 degrees2

Thanks for all your comments. It's interesting hearing what other people are doing.. We've changed the thermostat so that it's still 18 Deg from 6am to 10pm.but at night, it's been reduced to 10 deg. Let's see how we get on with that by keeping an eye on the monitor.
Was chatting to a neighbour this morning -nice to have a little catch-up. I mentioned how everybody's big topic of conversation at the moment is energy bills & she said she wasn't worried at all because she couldn't see the cost of bills increasing very much at all for houses the size of ours. I was quite surprised because if energy prices are up 90% & due to rise again in April next year, then surely size of house is irrelevant. Anyway, first person I've met who isn't worried & it made a refreshing....if slightly confusing change.

I think a lot of people don't understand the whole energy price rise @foxgloves, maybe your neighbour is one of them. My dad hasn't got a clue, all he knows is its a bit more expensive. But he has altered his heating to come on earlier now, and turned his thermostat UP, to stay warm. I think a lot also don't understand that there's more to it than just heating...they are happy to just put the oven on for 20 mins just to heat up a pie or something, and don't realise an oven is one of the most expensive things to run.

I was chatting to somebody today who had a strange attitude to the energy bill rise ‘if I can’t pay - they can’t get blood out of a stone and at least I’ll be warm if they lock me up for non payment. Anyway there won’t be enough prison cells for everyone who can’t pay’ they don’t seem to be making any effort to cut down - I’d be worried sick 😳😳January spends - £587.585

I'm kind of in denial about the energy prices 😬 I did put my heating on later in the year than normal and when it first went on I was very careful thanks to a very mild November but this last week it's been on nearly all the time during the day because I'm just too cold otherwise and of course I've been off work so the heating has been on when it would normally be switched off for three days a week. My house is really cold and is a right pain to warm up if it gets too cold and I can't be cold. It's not on at all overnight, this week must be costing me a fortune but I'm trying not to think about it and will just have to try and catch up in the summer 😟Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1206

I am useless in the cold (and in the heat). Once I am properly cold I find it really hard to warm up again. I have to have the heating on - layers/blankets only do so much. My hands and feet suffer the most.

Well we have had our thermostat choices temporarily removed - the boiler's got a fault 🙄 Plumber came out tonight to check, as we'd managed to reset it and it was working this morning, but after a service the damn thing wouldn't turn back on. Thermostat currently at 8.5 degrees and dropping. 🥶🥶6
