So sorry you're still feeling rough, how very vexing! Do hope you start to improve soon. Does sound like you're making good gentle use of your recovery time x5

Glad that you are on the mend. What a horrid dose of the lurgy you have had.

Thanks @Cheery_Daff & @Blackcats, yes....the blimming thing is hanging around. Am trying to be patient & hoping for a tangible improvement by the end of this week.

@foxgloves dearest, glad to hear that you're on the mend, albeit more slowly than you'd like. I'm sure you've tried this but garlic is supposed to be very good in these circumstances...also a little raw onion, a good addition to salads I find. You'll have nothing to to fear from vampires...perhaps you'll become known as Van Helsing?! You're doing exactly the right thing in resting, boring as it is. Convalescence as a concept has been out of fashion..till Covid. Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx5

I can really sympathise as I recall how bored I was with the "do nothing" situation by a few days in. I seem to recall the main gain from the Covid situation for me was a significant production of crocheted dishcloths...

Hope you are feeling bit better today. I have had this horrible cold virus, but tested negative 3 times, so know it not covid. Had it 9 days now and still got constantly runny nose, even though I am starting to feel better. I too knitted dishcloths as a side effect of covid 😂 I wasn't bored though - I'm afraid I rather relished being shut in my study watching films on the laptop 😂 I turned a couple of spare duvets into cushions and made covers for them, and was generally quite disappointed when I had to rejoin the real world 🙄😂😂5

Foxgloves - you might be interested to have a listen to the Food Medic Podcast from 21st July I think the date was - it's to do with exercising after Covid but the interviewee makes a point early on of saying that the advice is for all. It gives some really interesting background around the risks and reasons though. I'm only part way in myself but immediately thought it might well be of interest to you!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hello & thanks to all who have commented today. Yes, I do seem to have had a proper dose of the wretched thing, don't I? It's nice of you to pop on with encouragement & sympathy.
@Humdinger1 - Yes, I have been upping the garlic...I've doubled the amount in the recipe for tonight's meal. I've also had healthy home made soups & plenty of fruit. I've always been interested in natural/herbal cures (since I was in my early teens) & have quite a lot of books about it in my witchy-woo collection.
@Makingabobor2 - Hope you feel better soon. I've been having herbal tea too - echinacea, which has liquorice in too. I also made a lergy-busting choice from the Chinese takeaway last weekend when we decided to treat ourselves - I had something garnished with fresh green chillies for a starter & a main full of big slices of pickled ginger......& even with covid, I could taste those!
@EssexHebridean - Thanks for your suggestion re the podcast episode. I'll aim to listen to that, as I shall need to get moving again. I've lost all confidence on my bike, which is a shame, as I returned to cycling (nothing very energetic, just a means of transport for short local journeys) after a 30+ year absence & was enjoying it, but stopped at the start of the pandemic for no good reason & haven't started again. I have always had a poor relationship with exercise, but I like walks & gardening. I think gardening is good 'green gym' as a solid couple of hours session can involve so many different kinds of activity. I'm thinking I might start with a walk around a local-ish gorge maybe at the weekend or next. The circular walk isn't a long one & there is good coffee up on a verandah in the fresh air if I need a rest. I am still very much hoping that I might just get up one day & find I feel pretty much normal.
@Cheery_Daff - I agree it feels better to make good use of enforced illness-induced rest. I haven't knitted any covid dishcloths but I have advanced a pair of socks! Good shopping from home making your duvet into cushions.

Hello Tuesday Wallet-Wranglers,
Not a lot to report today. Have been resting this afternoon, knitting my friend's sock & watching another episode of the Val McDermid drama.
This morning, apart from a quick bit of jigging of funds around our savings pots, I've pretty much been in the kitchen the whole time. I have one of the R. Galbraith 'Cormoran Strike' novels on the go on audiobook & have been dealing with gluts. I bumped today's meal (which would have been courgette & pesto pasta) to next week & have instead got a batch of gigantes plakis in the slow cooker, which I shall serve with home baked bread. It seemed silly not to use some of the growing pile of ripe tomatoes & as this recipe uses 800g & we both like it, it seemed a no-brainer. Still sufficient ripe tomatoes for making tomato soup on Thursday.
I also cooked up a pan of windfall apples & bottled them. They don't keep anything like as long as the perfect ones picked straight from the tree, so I need to keep on top of them. Then I did the same with another pan of poached cinnamon pears. I usually freeze apple sauce & poached pears & similar in containers, but we already have some in there & the freezer is rammed, so I decided to extend this summer's first foray into bottling tomatoes into experimenting with some fruit. It won't be too long before I need significant amounts of freezer space for festive baking, braised red cabbage, chestnuts, etc, so we are going to eat our way through its contents between now & when we go on holiday. That will give us plenty of time to make inroads & plenty of meals which will feel like free ones.
Right, I am going to make Mr F a packed lunch for tomorrow, then I shall aim for a relaxing evening & enjoy watching GBBO.
Take care m'dears. If you are lergy-free, enjoy it & aim to stay that way! If you are currently lergyfied, you have my sympathies. Let's hope we will soon be leaping about like mountain goats!
Cheers,
F x
