Yikes... our green bin is £65 a year(!), although they extended it last year as they had a few contractual problems so nothing to pay for an extra 6 months I think. On the topic of prices I was just doing a W*itrose order earlier (there are a few little bits we can only get there and I had two vouchers) and Weetabix was 10.2p per biscuit. I used to get them at 5p in other shops and W*itrose was about 6p. That's a huge difference! I still get them elsewhere, but just a scary example and the news seems to think 7% inflation is here to stay until the end of the year at least.

Ooh, I think I'd better keep quiet about garden waste bin costs & appreciate our low subscription while it lasts!
@QueenJess, yes, food prices are definitely rising apace & I even saw one economist stating that 12% could be possible if things don't stabilise. Definitely time to use our old-style frugal skills.

darn it! I thought I was going to be able to cap you all but Queen Jess has pipped me at the post. £60 a year here in SE London with fortnightly collections for 9 months of the year then monthly December to end of FebruaryIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!4

Eep, dare I confess our green bin are free? Green fingered lot around here. Most of the neighbours have several, one of them has 4
we do pay quite a bit of council tax though, about £210 a month for band D.

Yes that's more than our borough. Band D is £175 a month before any discounts. You could have a lot of green bins for the differenceIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!6

Grrrr, just typed today's post & it vanished. So today in a nutshell: Builders, new freezer arrived, baked a sourdough, baked rhubarb & cinnamon muffins, washed 2 coats & pegged out to dry, made lamb stock in slow cooker, did the ironing, got summer clothes out & packed winter ones away, watered greenhouse plant babies & that was about it
Gardening day planned for tomorrow.

Your days always sound so productive.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

I'm.not really one for sitting around in the day @Sun_Addict, unless I have a really good book on the go. It was one of the issues much in my mind when I took VR ....would I be bored? But I very rarely am. I've always got projects on the go, new ones planned & the garden, esp food growing, takes up quite a wodge of my time. As we have nice weather in our neck of the woods today, I'm getting on with garden jobs today. I also need to make a bit more effort with my declining fitness levels so that will be a project in itself.

Hello Sunbeams,
Pleased to be able to report a productive day. Builders cracking on, though were unimpressed that the builders' merchants had delivered 2 x 2 ton bags of rocks exactly where they needed to be laying the next run of paving.
I've spent most of the day progressing garden jobs - dealt with 'shrub hospital', one of which was quite big so involved a bit of triffid wrestling, potted up 3 dozen poached egg plants for transplant & moved another trayful to edge veggie beds where I'd welcome pollinators. Then cleared & edged the bed I intend to use for lettuce. Didn't get the lettuces planted out though as too hot & they'd have wilted. Also planted some spare sweetpeas up an arch that wasn't doing a lot.
Mr F on early finish today & again volunteered for the grocery shopping on his way home. I made sure he knows how much is left in the grocery budget for this final April shop - the princely sum of £35. Did a really tight meal plan so it should be doable imo, though as @QueenJess said the other day, food prices are very noticeably increasing.
That's been pretty much my day, apart from sorting the freezer food which survived the meltdown between our new freezer & the little one. I like the small one for odds & ends of ingredients so I can find them easily but Mr F keeps moving things round as he likes freezer tetris. Might as well start how I mean to go on.
Just starting to ache now from all the bending I've done in the garden. I shall be like a stiffened old crone tomorrow!
Cheers all,
