Yes, HHoD & Dawn.... I think this nocturnal brain racing is probably quite common. As soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning, the worries, which can be incredibly detailed, start to recede. I can usually get to sleep OK. I'm not sure what woke me up. My throat is sore & the associated swollen glands are making my neck stiff, so maybe I was just uncomfortable.
HHoD - Yes, I don't get many cold type of lergies at all these days. I should be grateful for that & just accept a few restful days of reading & films.

This afternoon in my Christmas pinny was so useful. By the time I finished, I'd got 6 generous portions of chicken chilli, 2 of chicken & mushroom supreme & 9 of chicken soup. I used the soup as a bit of a use-it-up opportunity as we have plenty of potatoes & onions but there were carrots, parsnips & a big leek which needed using so it is a nice healthy soup with all that veg in it as well as plenty of chicken & the bone stock I made yesterday from two carcasses. It's all just cooling on the worktop now, then Mr F has volunteered for a bit of New Year's Eve freezer tetris.
When I finished cooking, I came into the lounge to find he had lit the fire & lots of candles, plus switched the tree & over-mantle fairy lights on. It did look lovely & inviting for this lergyfied individual to collapse into a big squidgy armchair ready to see in the new year. I have convinced myself that a large glass of prosecco will be positively bursting with medicinal, virus-quashing qualities, so maybe the lergy will have improved a little by tomorrow, when we all get up & begin 2020.
I shall be sharing my goals for the year ahead (& possibly wishing I hadn't eaten quite so much curry!)
    Enjoy your evenings, everyone.

Hello again all - I recently had an appointment with an occupational therapist where we talked about our night-time anxieties. She came up with this idea, which I'm starting to put into action, of having a worry box where you write each worry down individually on a slip of paper and set yourself a scheduled appointment for when you're going to 'worry' (i.e. sort out) each problem. Every time your mind goes to it, you have to say to yourself something along the lines of "I know you're there, but I'm not going to think about you until 4:30pm tomorrow afternoon." and keep repeating it each time the worries come back in before that time.

At the allotted time, you give yourself up to 30 minutes to sort out worries, taking one out at a time.

I'm only just starting it, and am hoping that repetition is going to lead to less stress....

    Hi foxgloves,

I am a long term lurker of your diary but I have never had a mse account so haven't posted. I thought I might spend sometime finally setting one up today! I love reading your diary and have managed to clear most of my debts this year. Lately I find myself asking myself 'what would Foxgloves do?' when making decisions about spending and I hope I have mainly been making the most frugal decision.

All the best for the new year,
    Bella x
