Charged £600 out of the blue for my Gas/Electric??

I really hope someone can help me
I was coming up to the end of my gas/electric policy with Green Star Energy where i was paying £47.81/monthly for my 3 bed semi detached house. They sent me a renewal document (which has increased significantly, so i wanted to cancel) and noticed that I now need to owe them £600 before I can leave them?!
I have given regular meeting readings and when I called them she said "well you've obviously been using more than you thought" but nothing has changed and I live on my own and dont have the heating on during the day?
I'm on their Rate Saver 12M Fixed, 12 month contract. I joined the energy saver club and it estimates I should be currently paying £69, but even that doesn't add up to a £600 balance?
I'm a single woman who has bills to pay and I cannot afford £600 out of the blue?! Does this sound right to you? I want to get some solid facts before I call them again...
Thanks!!

£47.81 per month sounds very low ,looks like your dd was set too low either by GSE or yourself. Did you not get regular bills/statements when you gave meter readings?0

The usual applies - dig out all your meter reads+dates (especially your START meter reads with Green Star and current reads); also the tariff you are currently on. Then the guys with the calculators will tell you how much you've actually spent.

I am paying about the same amount on DD circa £47 pm .
If Feb and March are extra cold i may owe them an extra £50 for the two months .0 -
P.S. Gas start date was 4874 (11th April 2017)
Electric was 5245 (11th April 2017)
Most recent Gas was 6878 and electric 7722 (both taken on 23rd December) and it's due to end 11th April 18.
Also, to confuse matters even more, my app with them is telling me my account balance is £471 in credit!?0 -
Metric or imperial gas meter?
Is this bill based on actual or estimated consumption (it's marked on the bill)? If the latter, why have they not used the readings you supplied?
We also need the opening and closing reads from the bill: £££'s tell us nothing, what you need to calculate is your actual kWh usage. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Ignore any credit showing on your account. It is meaningless unless it is based on a bill using actual meter readings. Even then it is only valid for the date that the bill was raised. I am afraid it is pencil, paper and calculator time. Dig out your tariff and work out your actual consumption based on kWhs used and the rates. Add VAT if necessary and then deduct all the DD payments that you have made during the period. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Those were both actual readings.
The yearly estimates they have on my bill and the prices seems that overall it should be say £780 a year, which is about £65 a month. I've been payin £47 a month, which still doesn't explain £600 left to pay? I'll dig out my othe bills and try and figure out how much ive used, and see what they come back to me with.0 -

For 8.5 months elect, total £375 (£44/month)
The problem is gas. Metric meter assumed (imperial gives a worse result unless I've got them the wrong way round!)
For 8.5 months gas, total £741 (£87/month)
You've used 2004 units in 8.5 months; please confirm that the gas reads are not marked as E (for estimate); if not estimates who provided the readings? If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
22444 kWh gas in 8 mainly summer months !
What do your meters read now ?0 -
Hello everyone, I'm at work now so can't take readings at the moment. But from the actual readings, my friend worked out the following:
Gas
Apr: 4874
Dec: 6878
= 2004 x 12.149p/kWh = £243.46 (for 8 months)
+ 4 months est £81.15 = £324.61
+ standing charge £67.82/year = £392.43
Electric
Apr: 5245
Dec: 7721
= 2476 x 2.748p/kWh = £68.83 (for 8 months)
+ 4 months est £22.94 = £91.77
+ standing charge £75.37/year = £167.14
£392.43 + £167.14 = £559.57 for the year
= £46 per month
This look about right?0
