Is Anybody Happy With A BT Broadband Connection

I ask merely because there is so much criticism, which may well be justified, and is possibly because they are a major operator.

I am about to change to them and need to know whether or not most users are content with what is offered!

  • Stay away from BT. Once upon a time they were OK now they will try and drain every penny from you. At present I am seeking a decent solicitor to sue them.
  • Been with BT for quite a few years now, initially ordinary BB then changed to fibre once it was available. Only thing I've had to keep an eye on is haggle time - when the end of your current deal approaches, phone the 0800 number and say you want Contracts (or Customer Retention), not Customer Service! Other than that, been and am quite happy with my BB service.
  • I too was happy untill they started messing about with my line speed. Now they just wont listen and keep wheeling out the old excuses.

BT has been fine for me although I agree with the post above about the haggling that has to g on but they are hardly alone in that.
  • I am now part way through my second year with BT on Infinity 1. I have a rock steady connection of 52 Mbps down and 8.2 Mbps up. Good wireless signal from router. I admit that it is slightly more expensive than some of the deals from other ISPs but of course Infinity 1 is UP TO 55 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up whereas most other providers are up to 38Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Where BT let themselves down is in the cost of phone packages where they are much more expensive than others. However we've got into the habit of using the landline as little as possible and relying on mobiles with unlimited free minutes. Mobiles are also on BT network where I get unlimited minutes, texts and 500MB of data for £5 a month. Obviously a lot depends on how things are dealt with when a problem arises. About 4 months ago I lost land line and broadband. Contacted BT and an Openreach engineer turned up the next day and identified and fixed the problem, which was due to a connection being dislodged when work was being carried out in an underground tunnel nearby. The enngineer also replaced my master socket with the latest filtered faceplate. All in all I am happy with my fibre broadband speed and reliability.

    Happy yes .
Slight problem with rein/ sunshine but that's Openreach .

There will be very few ISPs on here that have no complaints and many complaints are often user error .

The help from BT community forum is useful and often gets a top level CS involved for real problems .

Price increase yes but each one has resulted in a lower price after saying i am leaving .
  • Oh yes my price dropped then so did my speed. dropped from around 5Mbps to 1.2Mbps.
BT says "well thats all thats guaranteed". They simply dont care. Im in Hospital when the email came out advising of the price increase and too late to cancel. Now they want big money to get out of the contract.
They are devious in the xtreme. Yep when BT works well it works well, but god help you if it starts to go wrong.

The speed and reliability is the best I have ever had.

On the minus side I had the BT Sport App always for free, but they starting charging £3.50 for it in January. I signed up for the new deal in December to avoid the price rises. It did not mention the new £3.50 charge in my conformation email.

I have complained to Ofgem, they are investigating.

Mine was ok, my fibre broadband speed was a bit rubbish at one stage but after I ran their speed tool a few times they seemed to speed it up, no problems since.

However, trying to leave at the end of a special offer period without paying either early repayment charges or steep prices for following months is one of the most difficult things I have ever tried to do.
Four phonecalls so far, the first two they wouldn't let me give more than 30 days notice, the third time it took half an hour and they let me for my broadband but not for my BT mobile cos they apparently can't take the notice now and give a PAC code later and PAC codes are only for 30 days. Then they sent me an email confirming all my services would end today, phoned them back and they confirmed it would not end until 5 april and their email is wrong. Anyway to end my mobile contract I have to phone them on one particular Sunday, when they don't open until 9am and I need to drive across the country in the morning to work in the afternoon that day, but apparently there is no way for me to do it without being charged other than ringing them on that exact day, even though they have put a note on their account saying what I am going to say when I ring on Sunday!

I asked the woman to feed back that I am only leaving because they seem to be deliberately trying to trap and trick people into excessive charges, if I liked them as a company I would pay the few quid extra and stay but they have really wound me up by designing terms and conditions to trip people up.

Also I never received the price rise notice email that they said they sent me. I have all the other emails they have ever sent me.

This whole admin saga has given me Virgin Media flashbacks.:wall:
But admin aside, my service does work. Hopefully it still will tomorrow!
