Sorry about the trip to your stepdad - sounds tough.  At least you got some photos and the painting (albeit you think it's hideous).  Perhaps you can make a fun feature of it somewhere in your new home?

Lots of lovely posts, thanks peeps. The picture will not be staying, OH knows a couple of antiques people so they can have a look and see what they think.
Been to ladies day at the races. Won on a couple but lost overall. Weather was good and had a nice time. Staying in a hotel tonight and back home at some point tomorrow.
Still waiting for a quote from the man with a van to get our stuff up north. My housekeeper up there is keeping an eye on the house and has said his mower is poorly. I think a belt has come off and OH says it’s a swine to do. Said if he’d do a free mow of the grass he’d see what he can do.
Still not sorted the doggy situation out but might have a cunning plan.

Cunning plan isn’t going to work so probably have to take them with us, which isn’t ideal.
Had a frantic morning home call from the people who have the unit next to our workshop to say the bin was on fire and the fire brigade were on the way. Called the new owners and then went down to check everything was ok. It was fine. The firemen had filled the bin with water and doused it. I think someone might’ve put a ciggi in and that had set it off.

Honestly people are daft the way they discard cigarette ends - it doesn't bear thinking about the needless cost for Fire services having to attend things like this which could have been easily prevented by a little common sense being used. Very glad all was OK, though!

Also sorry to hear that the visit to your Stepdad didn't go well. Might this enable you to finally close the chapter on that one do you think? Glad you got the pictures etc though - ultimately your Mum will have appreciated them while she had them, and if he won't, then sad as that is, having them returned is the best thing isn't it so they can continue to illustrate your family's history.
