The difference between dangerous and careless is simply the consideration of how far below the standard of a reasonable and careful driver the driving is. It is very arbitrary and speed is only one factor. A dangerous driver might be driving within the speed limit, a careless driver might be driving far too fast.0 -

No, you could hit someone on a motorway travelling at 90 mph and be done for a careless driving offence.
You could hit someone at 70 and be done for a dangerous offence, say for instance it’s heavy traffic and the average speed is around 60 and several junctions before you’ve been forcing overtakes and using the hard shoulder.
The important factor between the two offences is the word far.0
