Is Kwik Fit Trying to Fleece me?

Yes you did, they allegedly put something in your tyres without asking you or your permission, the choice was to have told them I am not paying for that.
You go in and you say "What's the cheapest tyre you've got?" (it's a spare) "They say £45". You say "OK" they fit the tyre, you pay. Then when you leave you see the receipt and it says the usual £2 tyre disposal, £5 fitting or balance or whatever and £37 for the tyre and also £1 for Nitrogen. You could spend the next 30 minutes arguing over £1 you've already paid or you could just get on with your life.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
No it wasn't. They don't give you a breakdown BEFORE they fit the tyre and BEFORE you pay the bill. It is only apparent on the receipt AFTER you have paid.
Nice little earner if everyone gets charged a pound for something completely unnecessary.0 -
I'd say yes, for sure. I absolutely hate Kwikfit having experienced their greed before.
Just today, I got a fault with my car fixed for £99.96 by an independent garage. Yesterday, Halfords tried to charge me £233 to fix the problem! Its absolutely astounding how they can stand there and basically rob people.
I know their not the same company, however it just shows that the big chains are not always to be trusted. Find an independent garage in your town, maybe one that's on the goodgaragescheme.com website.
I've used two registered on that site and both have been excellent.0 -
To be honest £230 isn't overly excessive. A independant garage could probably do this job for £180 ish. it's not a quick job.
The mechanic got annoyed and told you to get the heck because it's genuinely annoying when people come in for work need doing and then drive away after wasting your time. Probably didn't bill you because they'll get told off by management as they let someone leave the garage without getting work done so they're rather just keep this off the record.0 -
What is more worrying is that someone has been driving a car with an ABS fault for a month without having it attended to (or even diagnosed).
If you have never driven a car without ABS you will not understand the terror of an emergency stop in the good old days - not really knowing where on the road you might end up (which in the last car I had without ABS - an L reg Cavalier - resulted in a 180 degree spin on the motorway trying to avoid a car that changed lanes as I was passing it). Also, a lot of cheaper car designs depend on the stability control to iron out poor handling in the underlying design.
I'm intrigued that someone would worry about being done for a few pounds yet happily drive a car in a potentially dangerous state oblivious as to the point of a warning symbol on their dashboard.0
