Second Anniversary First Post I've been Money Tipped! Newshound!

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
I look after her finances now. She used to do everything in cash but I've set up a bank account in my name for her bills and cash, which generates interest on the money in there and cashback for paying the bills. Is it fair I keep it all?

Unfortunately the MSE team can't always answer money moral dilemma questions as contributions are often emailed in or suggested in person. They are intended to be enjoyed as a point of debate and discussed at face value.

    Really?
    You really need to ask?

These MMDs are getting more and more unbelievable.
Or there are more and more unscrupulous, mean people around.

    I agree wholeheartedly.

In fact I'd go as far as to say they are nothing more than forum fillers.

Oh for goodness sake, how desperate is MSE to post trashy clickbait like this.

Yes I think you should take all the cashback, and the money in the account and run off to the Seychelles.

    What a load of rubbish!
  • Did you need to ask?
You shouldn't even have your grandmothers money in your bank account! You should have set it up in her name.

And enough with these stupid dilemas MSE!
    Make £520 a year in 2020 so far (£0 cash £0 AGC)

  • I agree the account should be in her name with you as an authorised signature if this is what is needed. Legally this may have to be via Power of Attorney if she is not capable of giving consent. The cashback and interest should stay in the bank account with her money - you taking it is theft!
  • At this rate i'm expecting next weeks to be something like 'i keep taking cash from my mothers purse, is this okay?'

Of course you shouldnt take her money!
  • Go on be a thief you know you want to - that's why you asked the most immoral question of the year. All these questions must be made up - by mean people too?
  • Firstly it’s not your money the money you are getting as cash back is not your money is it? No of course you should not be keeping it and secondly is next weeks question granny has died or gone into a home should I keep the money in this account? Can’t believe you are having to ask this.

Of course it would not be fair to keep the money. She trusts you and you would be betraying that trust. Why don't you ask her if you can keep the money? She will agree, and then you can keep the money without feeling guilty.
