and i definitely get 4G VoLTE
VoLTE stands for voice over LTE and it more or less exactly what it says on the tin. It's voice calls over a 4G LTE network,
That’s highly unlikely for 2 reasons, Plusnet don’t offer VOLTE yet and more importantly the MotoE4 is not a supported VoLTE device, even direct on EE.Apple iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X

What made you think you were able to use VoLTE?====0 -
Needs to have a look at the BT website then doesn't he?!:
Enjoy fast 4G in more places than o2, Vodafone and Three.

You've been told rubbish, or misinterpreted the information you were given. BT's network does still use EE 4G and offer the same level of coverage.
The only difference is direct EE customers have a slightly higher priority on the network and can achieve higher 4G speeds if on a 4GEE Max tariff. However BT 4G is still your usual 4G access and it's likely you are just in a weak 4G signal covered area.
BT (& all other EE MVNOs) currently do not have the same level of coverage as they do not have access to the 800mhz.0
