He said even though it says '4g' it will never be able to get 4g as the BT network can't/unable to access the 4g masts?Evolution, not revolution0 -
I don't keep up with this stuff, but is the problem that there is disagreement as to what "4G" actually means...?
LTE networks were once touted as 4G. Is this still the case? Maybe EE were comparing "true" 4G to LTE. Do phones display "4G" when there's a LTE connection?

I have a Note 8 with a BT sim with it.
Today download was just under 60mbps and upload was about 22mbps...that’s in Essex near lakeside.
More than enough for most mobile users0 -

LTE has been acknowledged as 4G by the ITU since 2010.

Sounds like he spun me a line.....
Sounds like a salesman telling lies or exaggerating to get a sale.
BT has access to 4G on the EE network, the only difference between using an EE sim and a BT sim is that (currently) the BT sim can’t make 4G calls with a compatible handset (it drops to 3G or 2G to make and receive calls) so you can’t access the 800Mhz portion of the network (as EE mainly runs on the 1800Mhz spectrum it’s not a huge issue).
EE 4G Calling explained
EE users without a compatible handset and all EE PAYG users have the same access to the network as a BT customer.
BT Mobile is rumoured to be getting 4G Calling and therefore 800Mhz access in the near future.====0 -
Ah, so maybe just exaggerating then???0

If you’re being kind
If the phone indicates 4G is being used, it is.====0 -

No, they're not 'exaggerating' or being 'economical with the truth'. They're flat out lying.
Edit: that being said EE do have advantages over BT (and Plusnet, all part of the same family) but that's why you'll pay a premium over the other two.0 -
Yes OP the salesman has just flat out lied to you. Maybe indirectly as he hasn't a clue himself what he is talking about either. Probably something his manager taught him in training (how to talk bulls***).
I believe with BT, Plusnet and Virgin (all EE virtual network operators) they don't offer 4G calls, WiFi Calling or the 'higher tier' 4G speeds (60Mb+) where coverage permits on EE 4GEE Max plans.
Personally I was tempted to move to Plusnet for a SIM only plan for £8-10pm, but I probably do appreciate the little benefits and paying a slightly higher premium to EE for the extra features.0 -
Im on Plusnet and with a Moto E4
and i definitely get 4G VoLTE
VoLTE stands for voice over LTE and it more or less exactly what it says on the tin. It's voice calls over a 4G LTE network,0
