I heard that tablets may not dissolve properly and clog drains.

Are there hundreds of thousands of dishwasher uses with blocked drains then? I've never suffered but may be just lucky. Heard from whom BTW?

We inherited an old dishwasher when we moved house, it’s possibly 10 or more years old.. we use rinse aid and salt but buy it in bulk from amazon.. and we run a sachet cleaner through it once a month as we want it to last til next year when we have a new kitchen fitted

Unless you have a different Amazon to me, it's no cheaper than Sainsbury's. My last dishwasher lasted 25 years, just keep the salt topped up, no need for cleaner as it cleans itself every time it's used.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I used to be a farmer (:o) and buying in bulk usually meant a 25 tonne artic in the yard.

  • Yes we do. Separate tablets, rinse aid and salt.
  • No, we don't use any rinse aid and there's always salt in the machine.
Best tip I ever got though, is to use only half a dishwasher tablet in the machine! Takes a few minutes to break a boxful, but everything still comes out very clean......

    Interesting mix of answers.

I'm surprised about those who say they use all in one dishwasher tablets, but still use salt and rinse aid. Surely that's what the all in one is for?

I'll probably go back to adding rinse aid though as the Fairy tablets aren't as good. And I don't believe a dry Finish tablet will contain rinse aid, unless it's in some sort of powder form?
  • Hard water, Bosch slimline, Sainsburys own brand powder, rinse aid and salt. 23 years and still cleans like new.
