  • This is turning out to be a productive weekend. I may have alluded before now to my DH showing hoarding tendencies when it comes to discussions about getting rid of things. Firstly he's a bit of a Justin (case), secondly he tends to have quite unrealistic expectations about dated things holding their value and would rather keep things than sell them for little to no money.

So far today we've reached an agreement about letting go of two large bulky pieces of furniture, some kitchenware and a few other bits, and finished off a couple of long-outstanding DIY jobs. I've also put a few things on Marketplace and will give it a couple of weeks before carting them off to the charity shop.

  • Well here we are again! Today's main task was to finish taking all the stuff to the charity shop that we sorted out last weekend - it took two trips with a laden shopping trolley and equally laden Swedish shop blue bag. I've also shredded another pile of old paperwork and have filled up another black sack of rubbish.

There's been no interest in the furniture we're getting rid of, so I'm going to give it one more push, then drop the price next weekend.

It's that frustrating part of the month when no more decent payments can be made, though I've managed to do a bit of rounding down on two of the CCs. The current account is limping along with a week to go 'til payday, but things should pan out fine, as I've got nearly £40 left and will only need about £5 of that for essential groceries.

Well done on decluttering and the payments you have made. Every little helps at this stage.

  • Aaaand the weekend rolls around again :)
It's been another good one for chipping away - £35 in sales (DH), £100 after tax payment from a side hustle job (me) and new homes found for a bunch of old books. I've got a bag of textiles to exchange for a money off voucher at a clothing store and a few more decluttered items to try to sell.
I've not slept brilliantly this week (had a few late nights and early mornings), and it was so windy last night that it either kept me awake or I was dreaming that I was being kept awake by it - can't quite figure out which, but I'm pretty tired this morning either way.
Having a cup of tea and trying to decide where to start today. Wishing you all a good weekend!

  • Today's progress:
One more trolley load has gone to the charity shop.
DH has agreed to declutter some more old bulky electronics.
I've organised the next batch of stuff to photograph for sale.
    Cooking, housework, blah blah.
Other than that it's been a pretty lazy day, but I'm still wiped out - just hope that the way I'm feeling is just lack of sleep and isn't a precursor to some bug or other.

  • I would be very pleased if I achieved that much in a day!

We've run out of stuff to charity shop, sell and clear out after Marie Kondoing, I do miss it.

Our house started off with enough junk in it to open a shop! It's gradually going down, though - I tend to run out of steam quite quickly so doing a few quick bursts on the weekend is pretty much my limit.

I'm tackling what is probably the last pile of clothes today - things that I'm still quite fond of but haven't worn in more than a year (and simply don't need).

A few years ago I lost nearly 5 stone in weight and went absolutely bonkers acquiring clothes because for the first time in years I could find stuff that fitted and looked decent. I've always been an ebay and charity shop shopper, so most of the clothes I bought cost no more than a few pounds, but it resulted in a totally overstuffed wardrobe. When I started on the debtbusting I knew that I needed to kill off that habit, so I implemented a very strict 'one thing in, ten things out' policy on everything except underwear (which I knew would have to be replaced at some point!) and shoes (because I've never had a shoe habit). I went more than a year without buying anything, and can count on one hand the number of new clothes I've bought in the last 18 months.
All of my clothes now fit in one fairly standard sized wardrobe and a dresser drawer and I'm modifying the rule to 'one in, one out' as I can trust myself now!

Payday has been and gone and the next round of payments is underway. There's no extra work coming in at the moment so it's unlikely that any serious overpayments will be possible, but that could change within a week or two!

  • Checking in! Oops, I'm still looking at the pile of clothes I sorted out two weeks go.
Currently awaiting around £500 in side hustle payments (post-tax) and pondering the sale of more electronics. With a big push and some luck we may be able to do another £1000 in overpayments before Christmas. Totals will be updated at the end of the month.
