I know! Makes me laugh as I split before reaching 18 and I'm the youngest.
It is down to the parents to teach the kids, but difficult for those living hand to mouth and scrimping through.
Sorry your leg is hurting, hopefully a bit of rest will make a difference, the body needs rest / sleep to repair itself. Don't know about you but I'm waking up about 3am and it's like a sauna in here.
I'm about to move on to L2 of the course. Trick is to read the transcripts rather than trying to watch the videos, they've always had issues with them. Going to do the next section this week.
Hope you all have a better night tonight.

I think you're doing a great job with DS SH. £600+ a month fun/saving money is great for a 22 year old and paying his way will help him in the long term. You've helped him loads through uni, now he's earning its time to budget like an adult.
Well done on the pensions, although it sounds complicated, it's a real achievement to have the problem of deciding what to do with your pensions. I imagine it will really open up future opportunities xMortgage start date Nov 2014 - £90,545 over 25 years

Sorry to hear your leg is hurting SavingH. Hope it feels better tomorrow.
I think the amount you are charging DS is perfect. He has plenty of money leftover to save and have fun with. I also agree on them paying their way.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Thanks MF and BH. I appreciate the support
Well just been on a 1.4 mile walk with pooch and DH. Funniest bit was when we crossed over the road to avoid someone coming towards us only to realise it was our son and cross back! Our dog knew first LOL. I can really feel my leg now though so decided to take a tablet. Sorry to anyone I've overwhelmed with super long posts but I needed to get my thoughts out and clear some space in my head. Our neighbours have viewings booked already for the house they only put on the market this weekend.
Confessions/updates:- DH has had some noise cancelling headphones bought for him for work and loves them and has bought a pair for me and DD (£48 each).
- We've also agreed to buy a handheld cleaner with the money we are saving on our cleaner as we seriously need to improve our cleaning regime (about £100). Savings raided....
I get paid next Monday though so it will work out. I keep living in hope/denial that our cleaner will return any day but it currently looks unlikely.
- I didn't take the papers to the IFA for my pension yet as I tried ringing one 'last' alternative but they haven't rung me back so I think I just need to do it in the morning and 'push' the proverbial button.
- My local garden nursery has compost again so may go buy some more. Debating whether to continue sending DS or whether to go myself.
- Want to potentially paint garden fence grey to match our neighbours - it looks stunning and wasn't expensive - just time consuming. There's none of that particular paint in stock though so would need to wait for that.
- A friend has re-painted all of her kitchen cabinets and they look stunning so considering doing a kitchen (and utility) makeover. She's told me what she used - I need to price it up and work out where to buy it. I need to do something creative again - and until I start selling stuff there's no more room for craft in our house!! This could get me past my desire to replace the kitchen - hopefully it will look stunning while still being low cost. It feels a big job - it took her all month as she also works.
- I've had my tax letter now about my company so now need to register online. It will then take about 5 days before I get the code I need.
- I've started investigating a business bank account but need one that can accept multiple currencies...
- Ideally I also need to talk to an accountant
- I have sent my first painting by post and it arrived successfully so I need to push through the barrier and give selling other paintings a go. I've found possible packaging suppliers on line for canvases that didn't look too dear. So I need to give myself another push and follow through.
- In the morning I am getting my windows cleaned by a professional £12 - the first time in years LOL. It's just a guy who asked on spec - but I felt drawn to him. I initially said no - and then said yes but to a one-off only.
For anyone wondering - no I've no idea why I can do all those kind of things but struggle with on-going maintenance / cleaning type tasks but there we go. If I could find one - I would love a PA for about 2-5 hours per week to do all the things I don't want to LOL. Like a concierge service - on top of the cleaner of course.

I must admit you made me giggle at avoiding your own son 😂
With cleaning, break the house down into rooms and allocate it a day. If you've more than 7 then section the room(s) and tag it into one of the days. That way it's not a case of thinking the whole house needs doing, it's lounge Monday, your bedroom Tuesday etc.
Painting the cabinets is a fabulous way of changing the look, but keeping costs down. Again, break it down by how many there are to do, split over X days and allocated 1 hour per cabinet. You will be so pleased you did it.
As the painting arrived safely, you should move on with getting that going live too. It's an income stream you are missing out on and when such beautiful art is hung in a home, that part comes alive and it's so hard not to keep looking at it and appreciating what has gone in to creating it.
I am seriously thinking about setting up a business as a life organiser, I'd make a fortune doing something I enjoy and I'm sure there would be plenty of work for me reading through some of the diaries here 😀
Never apologise for posting what's in your head and what you are doing, better out than in and I find it does help to 'speak' and get it into the open air, it also helps others reading your diary too.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.6 -
I have never managed to gain appropriate levels of income from my children aka the parasites. I think the sum you suggest is well thought out. If you are concerned you could put the £40 into a buffer fund in case ds’s work dries up.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Hi CMD must have cross-posted sorry. Thanks for the support. Waves at MF and INOD. I think with DS's £ - I just won't put it in the budget until I receive it. I'd also consider spending some of it on upgrading his bed - but he may not want to sacrifice the space in his room for that... as it currently fits a desk and a triple wardrobe but might not then...
I think splitting cleaning down into rooms is a good suggestion. We are doing the kitchen and a little in the bathrooms but most of the rest is neglected. I am counting my win for today as the window cleaner when he comes... 'Doubling up rooms'MF - No. I think one of our issues is when we do a room we get stuck on that one room and never get to the rest.
DH has gone out on his motorbike - presumably to work. Hope he stays safe. I need to do the IFA paper drop off at lunchtime as I got up late. Not getting enough sleep but body not cooperating. Weather looks a little more cheerful today. Need to crack on and start work. I caught up by phone with colleagues yesterday but didn't produce much.
