O/S Daily Friday 2nd February 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, as he will catch a lift with me to the SM help with the shopping then walk to the gym for a workout, he'll walk home afterwards too.

Still dark and cold here, yesterday was a lovely bright sunny day but the wind was bitter, expecting it still to be as cold today, but rain is forecast.

Dinner last night was a full english - much to DH's delight, it's one of his favourites, it was egg, bacon, sausage, black pud, sauted new potatoes, mushrooms and beans, toast/bread and butter. Tonight I haven't decided yet, but as I'm food shopping this morning I'll find something I'm sure.

Yesterday I got more done than I anticipated - I spent all morning at mum's after I'd quickly called in to town on the way and visited the bank and building society, unfortunately in my hurry I should have paid a cheque in and I forgot to, so that will be done today. Once home, however, I did keep going with the washing and drying and got majority of that done, did the housework - again not a deep clean - but better than it has been, if I can just keep doing it at this level that will be good.

So on to today -
First thing this morning I'll be doing the food shopping, then home to pack away and tackle the ironing. Once DS2 is home from the gym and we have had a early lunch we will visit the bank and building society, then home - I may do some cooking/baking. The apples that I bought last week haven't been a hit, both DH and DS2 say they aren't very nice flavoured so have most of those left, but in their opinion they'd be edible in an apple pie or crumble with some custard! So I'll be using the apples for that - but I won't be wasting them. The fridge is nicely empty except where I've reshuffled meals this week there's quite a bit of veg that hasn't been eaten, so have incorporated that into the early meals of this next week, so it doesn't get wasted. I'm also going to have a look at trying to prep and make some meals ahead, so it just doesn't feel so pressurized in the week especially the days' I work.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone

Another cold start to the day here, and I have to go out early this morning. Only to the doctors for a blood test but I really want to curl up in the warm

I was really sorry to hear that Becky had a bad day dumpling. Hopefully as time goes on they will become less frequent. You are most certainly not a bad friend, you have got a lot to deal with right now, and you can’t possibly stretch yourself any more. It is really kind of you to go and visit your friend today.

JackieO I hope that things went as well as they could yesterday.

Glad the HT’s options evening went well CRANKY and that it has confirmed that he has made the right choices.

Judi I hope that Grump doesn’t find the drive home today too stressful, taking a different route is a good idea.

Hope you had a good evening with your gran Specky.

Sorry you’ve had a bad week Hester, it sounds like it has been very expensive.

Good to hear that your OH is continuing to make progress csarina, hopefully he has turned a corner and will steadily improve.

Good that your dad is behaving better nannywindow.

    Elona Congratulations what exciting news.

I really enjoyed the curry I made yesterday for dinner, my curries never come out the same twice even if I put exactly the same in!. I fancy comfort food today because of the weather, and I think it will either be toad in the hole with roast potatoes and veg or sausage mash and baked beans.

    Right, time for some breakfast.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Thanks for the start nmlc, how's your DM?
Hope yesterday went as well as it could JackieO.
    Congratulations Elona!

Met up with friends for dinner last night, lovely chat and food as always. Gave the kitchen a good deep clean when I got in, doesn't look any different but smells good!

Early finish for me today (I like Fridays), must go to the bank then some work friends are coming over to remember my work colleague, it's a year since she died.

Happy Friday everyone, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels less cold this morning and I couldn't see frost twinkling in the moonlight. Yesterday was bitter cold all day with a nithering wind that went right through you. It has been the longest winter this time.

Here we are at Friday once more with the Friday Tidy on the agenda yet again. Are there two Fridays each week?. But first I must put my accountant's head on and do the new month's finances. I know, I am a day late!

HOLLY thanks for the washer info, I think I shall defo order one today. ELONA aw a new baby on the way. How lovely. Congrats to your DD. CSARINA glad your DH is on the mend, albeit slowly. DUMPLING thinking of you and hope Becky gets well again soon. KARCHER I hope you slept better last night and give thought to Elona's advice.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) to all in need/want of them. Take care xx

    Morning all

Seems very cold here today I think there is a frost on the cars.

Little Evie had her hair done yesterday and looks adorable but when taken into the pet shop next door she embarrassed herself (and my FIL ) by doing a woopsie on the floor :o :rotfl:I think its the relief of getting out of the groomers and back with her family !

Work today but its Friday :j which means takeaway and wine tonight, and hopefully a good film on the tv.

Elona I am so pleased to hear your lovely news xx

Shopping and housework tomorrow but it should not take too long then hopefully a nanna nap on the sofa.

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • Morning all. Dry here, and I don't think it's as windy and cold. That north wind yesterday was absolutely bitter.

Yesterday went more or less as planned, and I've made a start with the dolls clothes.

At lunchtime we're going to a funeral of an old friend. We won't be able to go to the "do" afterwards because I have a hospital appt, but Ds, Dil, and Dd will be going.

Sounds as if you've had an expensive time Hester.
    Congratulations Elona.
Speky, hope you had a nice evening with your Gran.

Thinking of everyone who is going through difficult and sad times.

    Have a good day folks.

    Good morning all,

    Congratulations Grandma Elona

I have a day at home today once I've had the dressing on my leg done by the nurse at the surgery. It's done there once a week so they can keep an eye on how it's doing. I do it myself the rest of the time which is quicker and easier for me. I'm hoping my leg will be healed soon - it's definitely well on it's way.

Braising steak with mash and veg for tea tonight. I'm going to haul the slow cooker out in a minute and after the school run the meat can cook in that while I start cleaning. The cleaning may take longer than usual - I've had roughly 4 hours sleep last night and the same the night before. I blame the super moon and I have my fingers crossed for a better night tonight. Even the cat is in a strange mood this morning. She's chasing imaginary things around the sitting room instead of sitting as close to the radiator as possible as she usually does first thing.

I agree TA, it was cold yesterday with the sort of cold that goes right through you - I couldn't get warm at all. Not even after going out in that wind and then coming back indoors which usually makes the temperature in the house seem much higher.

    Take care all of you

    Morning all.

Great news Elona, very welcome news.

This morning I’m taking DM to her doc and then a bloke is coming to repair a window in her bedroom. There’s a bit of the frame needing fixed and it’s akso difficult to close.

The crane which caused problems yesterday is still doing the same today. It wasn’t pulled out of the ditch until about 11pm last night, seems it was a more difficult than anticipated. Now it’s out of the ditch and back on the road blocking one lane.

Must get on with my day, I hope everyone has a good one.

    Happy Friday.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Busy day, cleaners here first thing, need to get OH out for a short walk then hairdresser, friends coming at lunchtime to sit with OH whilst I go and have a look at the settee. If the settee is what is required I have been told to order it.

OH continues to make progress, this is the first morning he has been up for breakfast since 31st December.

Bright morning sun trying to shine, but there are some dark clouds on the horizon. Hope it does not rain, driving into Leicester in the rain is a pain.

Almost forgot, congatulation's Granny Elona, what lovely news.

    Morning everyone,

No sign of a frost here either but just been out to feed the birds and it's very rude wind in that it doesn't bother to go around you.
We had a lovely meal out with our pal last night, it's over six months since we've seen him so loads to catch up on and plenty of laughs, mind I wasn't driving so had a couple of glasses of wine :D
As for today, have changed the bed and the towels so the WM is chugging away, will also whizz round with the duster just to keep on top of things. If the rain stays away will also take Lulu for a walk around the fields.

Pleased to read that your OH continues to improve Csaina
    Aw, poor little Evie Redruby
Amen to that Tiredmum our little band of merry posters could all do with a better month for sure.

Have a good day folks x
