I passed my test in the 80’s. I can ride a moped on my licence. I remember being able to ride a bigger bike on L plates as long as it had a sidecar.

Many of us had some mad little plastic thing and could go around on big bikes.

When was this entitlement removed from me?

    When the CBT came in.

Did the law make it retrospective then?

I passed my car test mid 80’s and could whip round on a big bike. I can’t see anything in the legislation that makes cbt rules etc retrospective. I seriously wouldn’t want to chance my arm but it’s an interesting point.

They’ve closed the loophole as Catagory A is an unrestricted motorcycle with or without a sidecar. It’s the bike they look at now not the combination, unless you’re disabled.

How the fluff do you restrict a 125 engine to 50cc?

A trike but not a motorcycle and even then you’ll need a CBT and L plates.
