Full Car License and CBT Rules
Hi there hoping someone can help me shed some light on a License issue.
My Wife has ridden motorbikes 50cc and some 125cc and she has no desire to go any bigger, she has done her CBT 6/7 times. She passed her car test 2 years ago and now for the summer wants a new bike.
Looking at the new rules on the .gov website i can't understand if she needs to re do her CBT
-125CC will be restricted back to 50cc so treated as the term MOPED which .gov uses to class 50cc
-she has done CBT 5/6 Times before
-she would like to remove the L plate
So the question - can she ride her de restricted bike with no plates and not have to do another CBT
Many thanks

You passed your driving test on or after 1 February 2001
You’ll get a full moped licence if you either:
pass your car driving test and then complete a compulsory basic training (CBT) course
complete a CBT course and then pass your car driving test within two years
You can then ride a moped (up to 50cc) without L plates. You don’t need to take the full moped test.
You can ride mopeds for as long as your car driving licence lasts.

She needs to redo her cbt and display L plates unless she wants a moped.0 -

What is classed as a moped, the gov website classes 50cc as a moped regardless of the shape of the vehicle.0 -

So she would not need to display L plates, but do her CBT once more to have a CBT after her full car licence?
Cheers for the help0 -

See this is the sticking point the bike she had restricted so its 50cc but due to gearing and sprockets does 48mph which to her is fine. So i assume as its now a moped she is free to not take the CBT and not have to display L plates0 -

But that’s not a moped, she’d need a CBT and L plates.0 -

But the government class any vehicle at 50cc a moped, regardless of shape or gears they call it a moped and officially on the log book it states 50cc now and shows the restriction
This is why i go in circles lol :wall:0 -

Yes but they done use a rolling road, the bikes engine displacement is limited to 50cc. But having different sprockets adjusts speeds which again the government have no stipulations!
Need a police biker on here lol0
