Uk car in Europe without upgrading insurance?

Dear Forumers,
I am going to stay in Germany for about 6 months and I would like to bring my car with me.
The DVLA indicates that:
"All UK vehicle insurance provides the minimum third party cover to drive in other EU countries."
But my insurance policy says:
"Your Certificate of Motor Insurance includes international cover for a maximum of 90 days in a single period of cover on a third party basis only"
So, legally, am I legal to drive a UK car in Europe without buying or upgrading current my car insurance?
Regards,
L

You’ll only be covered for the first 90 days and you intend to stay for 180.
If it’s stolen then you’re not covered.0 -
you need to check on German legislation, you may have to register the car there if you stay over 3 months.
If it is OK then a specialist insurance broker will find you appropriate insurance.

Thanks, but is it just not covered for theft? or for the rest of 90 days, I will be entirely illegal on road?Warwick_Hunt wrote: »You’ll only be covered for the first 90 days and you intend to stay for 180.

Phone your insurers and ask.
From what is on the policy I would expect you to effectively be uninsured after 90 days.0 -

Thanks for your reply, someone says I need to import the car if stayed over a year. Is there any official webiste I can check for that legislation, in English?0 -

That’s an interesting question and when you do find out from your insurers please come back and update this thread.lilinghan8 wrote: »Thanks for your reply, The insurer says 90days, but I am just wondering if the policy is against the rules by DVLA.

Why would uk vehicle and licensing rules be breached in Germany?0 -
Not necessarily against the dvla rules 90 days is plenty for normal cover, I suspect if you where abroad any longer you would be classed as residing there.0

I mean, if the insurer's policy for European cover is only valid for 90 days, is that against the rules by DVLA (at least 3rd party cover during the insurance period,If I understand it correctly)?Warwick_Hunt wrote: »Why would UK vehicle and licensing rules be breached in Germany?0
