Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

The DVLA have no jurisdiction in Germany.0 -
This might help...

DIRECTIVE 2009/103/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL
(24) All compulsory motor insurance policies should cover the entire territory of the Community.0 -

Thanks for your reply. Can I understand it as: I still have 3rd party cover (compulsory motor insurace policy) even after the first 90 days?0 -
No you would be covered for third partys for the 1st 90 days then you would be uninsured0

Thanks for your reply. I am quite confused now. As you see from the post by GLOOMENDOOM:
All compulsory motor insurance policies should cover the entire territory of the Community.
Let's say after first 90 days, my car still has compulsory motor insurance in the UK. then it should cover the entire territory of the Community.0 -

It certainly looks like it. According to that link, it is the optional cover that can be time limited...You can also take out additional, optional insurance, called first party liability, covering other risks. This insurance extends your cover (e.g. to injuries to the driver, damage to your vehicle, theft of your vehicle/its contents, vandalism, and legal assistance).
There are no EU-wide rules on additional optional car insurance. Check the terms and conditions with your local insurer before you travel abroad. Insurers can apply different rules in each country. So your insurance could be limited by time (e.g. a month abroad) or by distance (e.g. 150km from the border of your home country), or might exclude some countries for some types of risk (such as theft).0 -
That s an EU directive it is not UK law.0

Morning Lomast,
Yes, it is an EU directive but it could have been done perfectly well as a regulation? otherwise, the DVLA and official EU website made such a statement without supported by the Law? (https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/vehicles/insurance/validity/index_en.htm)0
