Avoid Magnet kitchens

I've just had a Magnet kitchen installed. The electrician appointed by the Magnet fitter did an unsatisfactory job and I had to get another electrician to make the wiring safe so that a certificate could be issued.
Magnet are refusing to pay the extra costs because I originally paid the electrician direct. Technically they are correct - it was a private transaction. However, given that I've paid them about £15k for all the work, you'd think they'd be big enough to cough up £200. But no.
They're sweetness and light up until the sale and then they don't want to know. Avoid them and tell your friends.

If you paid the electrician for the work as opposed to paying magnet for
the electrical work your point of recourse is that electrician and not magnet.0 -
I keep watching these boards as I am looking for a new kitchen.
Are there any decent kitchen companies out there?
Actually, I suspect that Magnet wouldn't be any good for me because I need building work doing as well. But they all seem so dodgy!Always another chapter0 -

That depends where you are. If your in the Yorkshire area I cant recommend highly enough "Against The Grain" in Wakefield small family business but growing quite rapidly. They have just fitted my new kitchen and nothing was too much trouble for them. I got no Bullsh*t when they came around to design and give me a quote (unlike some) and the price was very fair as well."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I would not recommend Magnet either. They fitted a kitchen for me in May 2004. Their kitchens have a ten year guarantee but in 2005 cracks developed in the worktop. After many phone calls and letters (and assurances from Magnet) I am still waiting for this fault to be rectified. Have I case for trading standards?0

I had a new kitchen fitted last year. Had plenty of visits from salesmen for estimates. Went with a local company in the end, rather than a national. Like all these sort of things, I would go with recommendations and word of mouth. Cheapest is not always the best - think of the service you're getting too (it's more important than you think in the long run).
I can't see the attraction of Magnate (!).0 -
Hi
I've had 2 Magnet kitchens and thay've both been fab. However, I've only ever bought the units - I've found someone else to fit both. The Units are good maybe it's best to find your own fitter.0 -
We have had very similar problems. This company has appauling customer service. Everything went wrong and we didn't get what we asked for. The customer service was quite shocking and the managers were just rude. We should have had the entire kitchen ripped out again.
We were accused of being liars when their shoddy light fittings kept breaking. When we got another qualified electrician in it turned out that the company had fitted non-fire protected fittings which is why they were breaking. Dangerous aswell and according to him could have caught fire.
STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!!! Once this company has your money they do not care. They do not understand repeat business. We should have listened to the warning signs when we were first dealing with them.
I have NEVER had such a bad experience with a company. If they act like this with all customers I will be amazed if they stay in business.
The kitchens arent worth the higher prices. Pretty ordinary.0 -
Does anyone know of a reputable kitchen supplier and fitter in Cardiff?0

I have a Magnet kitchen, i can't complain about anything about it at all. It was installed 18 months ago by a private kitchen fitter, not by Magnet. OP, is your gripe with the Magnet electrician or someone you paid directly ?0

Magnet subcontract the fitting so it is a bit of hit or miss. I found their price for fitting very expensive. I bought the units from magnet and got my own fitter, he let me down and ended up fitting it myself.
I was very pleased with the quality of the units supplied by Magnet."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
