Second hand sat nav ideas please

However, remember its now an offence to even touch your smartphone sat-nav when driving even if you are sat in traffic so as long as you don't need to adjust your route and are not tempted to contribute traffic information as you suggest then you should be fine.
That might be one reason for a stand-alone SatNav to some people.
Why would you ever need to contribute traffic info? Google maps updates all that in the background and will re route if you make a mistake.
As for touching the phone you just say "ok google" then tell it to navigate to x if you want a different route.0 -

I see Google maps updates automatically as you use the app so you are correct - I was thinking of the likes of Waze where contributors update by pushing buttons.0 -

What I did was go on & on about not needing a smartphone so much that my best mate got fed up & gave me his old one. Now I use it as a satnav, music source, calendar, etc.
So get moaning & see what happens.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
I'd be going for any Garmin that has LMT in the title - Lifetime Maps and Traffic.
They can be bought new from around £90 or used on ebay from around £60. I'd personally spend the extra and go new unless your budget is very tight.0 -
Garmin lifetime maps only apply to the first user of the unit. If you get one second hand you won't get the lifetime map updates without paying.0

Get a cheap smartphone and use app like google map/ here wego
If you are using google map, download offline map at home before you go.
Also, grab a free three data sim card which give you free 200mb data every month as back up. All you need to do is use your other phone to call that data sim number every couple of month to keep it activate.0 -
This one looks pretty good value for money

Another one here suggesting a smartphone & maps.
Cheaper if you choose wisely and almost certainly more up-to-date too; look at recent threads in the "Motoring" subforum for their POV's and maybe post there too for their opinions.0 -

I'm sure you were making similar comments 10 years ago about Sat Navs and saying how your paper map is good enough!.0
