This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I’m glad that the girls both had a better day dumpling. I hope that things continue to get easier for them.
Welcome back nannywindow, I’m glad you had a good time, the food sounds like it was really nice.
I hope that your oh continues to improve csarina.
Having had a trip out yesterday and a nice meal at my brother’s house yesterday evening before he brought me back home, I will be staying closer to home today.
I’m having my hair cut this morning. Since the disaster of a haircut I had last summer I’m quite anxious about going to the hairdresser now, even though this will be the second time I have been to this hairdresser and it was fine when I went to her last time. She did do what I wanted which is more than the other one did. She’s cheaper as well which is always a good thing.
When I get back I will do a bit of housework and plan some meals to batch cook for the freezers.
Hugs to those who are poorly or caring for someone who is and those with troubles/worries.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Still dark here, dry and cold, but not quite cold enough for a frost.
Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight will be smoked sausage and mushroom pasta with creme fraiche sauce, this was Monday nights' meal that got reshuffled.
Work yesterday was a better day in as much as no abusive/nasty customers but we started off very slowly but then got very busy for a long period of time right through the middle of the day and one minute I'd just got back from lunch then next time I looked at the clock it was nearly 3.15pm - don't know where the afternoon went! I called in at mum and dad's on the way home as I was on an early finish all seems ok there, although mum was muddled, but dad does seem more open to help now, which is good.
Today is another longer day but my last in my working week, although I am working on Saturday morning but I don't mind that, DH and I are going to have a day out on Sunday to an antiques fair, we're not experts but we do quite like browsing at these events. It'll be good to have a day out doing something we enjoy as we haven't done anything like this due to so much hospital visiting and prior to that the lead up to xmas when we were so busy.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Another soggy start to the day, mind you it’s been pouring all night.
Today I’m off for the first of my regular teaching in Oban for the next 17 weeks. More numeracy, but at least it’s face to face which makes it easier.
Nothing much else planned apart from a short staff meeting in Oban and yet another spreadsheet to put together.
I hope everyone is doing well or getting better.
TA - just seen your message from last night about MrTA’s large family. My beloved father was one of 15 children. The spread of that lot is unfathomable
Happy Wednesday.0 -
Morning All
Wet and windy again, when will it end? I really hope we don't get any more snow, it is forecast.
I went for a much needed haircut last night, always good chat in the salon. Called at Waitrose on the way back, I love the calm atmosphere in that shop. I got a couple of bargains so quite happy.
Hope there are many more good days like yesterday dumpling.
tru - have you got lost in that spare room?
Sounds like you had a great time away Nanny.
Sorry to hear of your loss Gers.
Glad your work was calmer yesterday nmlc - we have to deal with that kind of behaviour daily, usually from the children (yes, it's a primary school), bad times.
I must do some housework tonight, it's long overdue! Have a happy wednesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting us off. It feels a bit brr this morning and I kept getting woken up with rain lashing on the window. The forecast is for more rain, falling as snow on northern hills. Here we go again!
We had a lovely day out yesterday but it was a chilly one alright. I did quite well in the cs, my first find was a navy cardi with white spots for 99p and looks unworn. Cancer Research were selling their remaining Xmas cards with 75% off so I bought 3 packs. Then immediately felt guilty at depriving them of much needed funds and stuffed a note in the box on the counter. So not such a bargain after all!
Not many stallholders had set up on the little market (don't blame them on such a cold day) and the veggie stall was already packing up and selling off. Big bag of red peppers for £1 so I shall be making a big pot of my very favourite soup with those. Backtracked to Ilkley for our usual gammon, eggs, chips etc for late lunch. As good as ever and enjoyed by us both.
Today I shall be back to catching up on jobs. I don't make lists as I never stick to them and then feel a failure! But I have promised myself I will give the leather sofas a good wipe over as goodness knows when they last got one. Lunch will be my pepper & cheese soup with a sarnie but yet to christen tea. Probably fish and will delve into the freezer shortly.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried and lonely. DUMPLING let's hope the promising start continues for your girls. JUDI I hope your DH is getting over the trauma of such a bad accident. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Its absolutely pouring with rain here and set in for the day I think, everything is so water logged and muddy and is not getting chance to dry out.
Off to work for me and it will be quiet due to the weather but we will keep ourselves busy with more pie making.
Sausage mash and veg tonight with grave, OH will be pleased as its one of his favourite dinners but one of my least !
Rubbish and recycling are out today and OH has put a wash on this morning.
Right I had better get on
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all,
I haven't posted for a while - we've had some bad news about a good friend of ours so that has kept us quiet for a bit. However, where there is life there is hope, so we'll just carry on hoping and on the meantime doing anything practical that we can to help.
The HT has a taster session of his GCSE options tonight so it will be home from school, quick tea and back to school. He already knows what he wants so hopefully tonight will confirm this rather than put him off. I have been reading along but because my head is full of something else I can't remember much so hugs to you all and stay safe0 -
Morning all.
Not sure how Grump is coping. I think hes eating now which is good but he usually rings me at least twice a day and texts in between but by 9 last night id only received one message earlier in the day so I rang him. I never ring him unless there's an emergency but had to know he was ok. He wasnt very talkative, no moans, no groans....bit like talking to myself really but hes been doing some inner reflection. Im not expecting a new man. Hes spent what money he had on cars and hes full of bright ideas but nothing ever comes of them but we will see.
Onwards and forwards
Have a great day all0 -
Morning everyone,
Not such a nice day today, dark, wet and windy so not looking forward to going out soon, I said that I would go over to the old yard and hold my friends horse whilst she has a new set of shoes fitted by the farrier. She is due to be moved on Friday, the last to go.
Other than that not a lot planned, the WM is chugging away but the load will have to go on the airers after a couple of days of being able to dry outside. Tea will be sausages with something, was going to do Toad in the Hole but we fancied scrambled egg for breakfast so no eggs left, will think of something!
Fingers crossed that the skies will be clear tonight so we can see this rare full moon, it was very stunning as it rose in the sky last night.
Sorry to hear of your loss Gers both DOH and I have lost our parents now so, apart from a couple of Uncles, are the oldest generation in our families now.
Hugs to all those with worries and cares, especially Cranky.
Have a good day folks x0 -
