  • Morning all. It's fine out there, and windy, but cold, brrr. I think it's set to stay fine though.

Yesterday went as planned. Today we're taking Dd out for lunch, no special occasion, just going out. We'll go to a local Arts centre a short drive away, it's nice there and not expensive.

I should give the bathroom a good clean as well, will crack into that.
An ex colleague used to say " there's always something for women to do" and I think she was right

I'm making clothes for a doll that I bought Dgd, so I'm scouring the charity shops for clothes to cut up, decent cotton jersey t-shirts, and stuff with little prints. It's cheaper than buying stuff by the metre when you only want small amounts, though I am planning to buy some new fabric, I'm going to order it today. My own fabric cupboard has come in handy as well.
She loves her dolls, and we thought when her new little brother arrives (Dd is pregnant) it would be nice to give her the doll with an enitre wardrobe of clothes. We have a nice buggy for the doll as well, for which I'm making covers. A friend thinks I'm a terrible cheapskate for buying charity shop stuff, but it's surprising how the cost of new fabric racks up, .Age Concern were having a sale last week and I got a good haul for 99p a garment, including a L*ands End polo shirt in perfect condition for myself

She also has a charity shop action man style doll, but he has no clothes, so I'm going to attempt a top and trousers for him. My hands are not as flexible as they used to be though, and doll's clothes can be a bit fiddly. It's worth it though.

Hope everyone has a good day, stay safe and warm.
  • Hello and good morning all,

Woke up to snow!! I thought we'd seen the last. While it was lying, it wasn't very deep and I'm sure will melt away soon.

Yesterday evening I made wings for dinner. Underestimated the time it took to cook them (1hr 10mins in total), so I was running a bit late for going to my friends house to watch the football. Wings were nice and the football was decent to watch. Was in bed and snoozing for 10ish.

This afternoon at 12, myself and some of my colleagues will drive down to Manchester from Glasgow. We've been invited to watch the game in hospitality for the Manchester City vs West Brom game. Really looking forward to it although I won't get home till 1am-ish.

Jackie - You won again! Right, you're either cheating or you're a bunch of clever people (I think the later). Also, when do you share and drink the stash of wine you constantly win? That must be one messy night and I expect an invite!
HH - Happy haircut today. I'm sure you'll look fabulous!
Cranky - Good to see you back and I hope everything's ok.
  • Morning all, dark and gloomy here but the forecast says that the rain will stop later, I imagine that means just dark gloom but no actual rain. I'm not out in it though, I'm doing paperwork at home. I have a report to read and QA (what a daft term) and lots of other stuff, some of which will get finished, some not.
I slept relatively well but still feel tired, ridiculous really.
I think my sleep must be too light, too near the surface of waking.
I haven't started work yet, my laptop is in our bedroom and it seems that him indoors is having a lovely lie in. I will let him have a bit longer before I go and start making noise. I can't really concentrate with him in bed.
I'm looking forward to the moon this evening.
Hope you all have a good day. JackieO is today your Frank's funeral? A sad time, thinking of you and your family.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Good morning

By eck its parky this morning :D

Been a bit AWOL lately...a mix of lots on or not a lot to say.

Yesterday I had to attend some training on safeguarding and child protection for some work I will be starting soon.... fascinating stuff. Shocking statistics though about the number of youngsters suffering from some form of abuse :(

In other news I have been working hard to get plenty of ready meals stocked ready for my op and the freezer is beyond full

Today I have to put together a lot of session plans for some training which will take up most of the day but need to squeeze in a good tidy and hoover of the lounge as I have treated my house to a carpet clean tomorrow...its probably on its last legs to be honest but a good shampoo and blow will freshen it up for a while.

Food wise I will be having the remaining half of one of my steak and kidney pies with some mash and peas tonight and probably a boiled egg and toast for brekky.

Hope everyone has a good day :A

Thanks for the thread Holly, hope the hairdressers goes ok.
Nmlc, glad work was better yesterday, Cranky, hugs.
Scarlet R I made a cot, bedding and clothes for one of my DGD's dolls.
Hugs to all those in need

I'm another one who is a matriach and have been for over 15 years and I'm only in my 60's.

My plans for today include dropping birthday gifts over for 2 of my DGD's and bringing another DGD back to the boat for a couple of hours. DD2 started to volunteer at a homeless shelter when DGD started nursery but DGD wasn't happy there so DD2 took her out. Cue much aggravation from the nursery manager who has DEMANDED a meeting with DD2 to discuss DGD's shortcomings!
She is 3, she is sociable, loving and was very confident about new people and experiences.
The nursery manager is in for a shock, both DD's are attending the meeting and DD1 is a childcare professional.

It's very windy here today, the boat engineer is due again as we have ongoing problems with the bow thruster. I shall potter about cleaning the boat for a couple of hours and then go to DD's.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Another good day yesterday, managed to get OH out for two short walks, he is still in bed but will be getting up shortly and out.

It rained overnight but the sun is doing its best to shine, smells cold though.

Nothing much going on until Friday which is going to be a busy day with cleaners, hairdresser and sitters for OH whilst I go and have a butchers at the settee we may buy.

OH has requested cauli and broccoli gratin with jacket spud and baked tomato's for supper, I am going to reduce the amount of chedder cheese in the sauce a bit and use the less salty parmesan. Yogurt for dessert I think.

I am glad dh is feeling a bit better. I got up fairly early and dis a quick tidy round and had a shower and washed my hair.

Friend is coming round for a coffee soon so checking things are not too much of a mess. Should have time for an omelette as a brunch before going out to volunteer at the library then getting home in time for a snack before the WI which is only a few minutes walk away.

Cleaner comes round tomorrow and dds have been a bit unimpressed by cleaning upstairs so will have to find a tactful way of broaching the subject.

    Hugs to all

Lots of thumps and bangs from the end of the garden today - it's Walter Pigeon flying up and hitting the small bird feeder so that some of the seeds dislodge and fall to the ground for him and Mrs Walter. Looks like I'll need to fill up the feeder again shortly....

Mr LW was supposed to have 2 horse-piddle visits on Monday, but got away with only one; he went for his lung function test in the morning, and the chatty little Welsh lady who administered it asked him what he was doing the rest of the day. When he said he had to come back to get a piece of equipment to monitor his sleep, she said "Oh, that's us, our dept does those, wait a minute and I'll find it for you, save you coming back". So that was good. Shame the people who did the appointments couldn't have realised in the first place, though....:o

Anyways, he had to have this gubbins strapped to his wrist, with a sensor thingy on his finger, for 2 nights, and we've been up to return it to the horse-piddle today - apparently it records pulse or something, which will give his consultant more info on what ails him, hopefully.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

    Afternoon all
I've had a weird morning, nothing has gone to plan at all. We decided to go to the meat van and a few shops, then to Li*l to top up on milk etc but two out of the three bridges out of the village were a nightmare. The first had 3 way traffic lights and the traffic was horrendous, number 2 was closed for gas pipe work and the third was open but really, really busy. So had a bit of a journey and ended up in Al*i ! Mr Fix It was also in a bit of a bother this morning as he kept wandering off, I even threatened him with a child's wrist lead at one point . He doesn't seem "with it" at all today :(
This afternoon I have filled the DW and it's doing it's thing. I also managed to knock a new jar of dried thyme off the worktop and it ended up all over the floor so had to hoover that up. I have put some pork loin steaks, mushrooms, onions and peppers in a honey and cider sauce, in the slow cooker ( my own concoction so I hope it tastes ok ). We will either have that with jacket potatoes, or curry and rice from the freezer for tea. It depends on Dad turning up for his tea or not. I rang him last night and he wasn't very well, so we'll see. It does seem that he's realised that he had upset us, as he's been as gold as gold since our "bust up". (Till next time eh ?)
Glad to "see" you Nelski and Cranky, missed your posts.

fingers crossed for your haircut today

Mr Fix It has had orders from the DGC for a lookout post for the fort ( DGS ) and a Barbie wardrobe (DGD). I'm on the decoration of the wardrobe, which has to be pink, pink and pink :rotfl:
Hester I hope your DD puts the manager straight, sometimes they think they know it all :(
Hope everyone is having a reasonably good day, whatever you are doing. Hugs to all those in need.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
  • Good luck with the wardrobe decorating NannyW !! I've got a pattern for various items of clothes for the 11.5" barbie style dolls, but some of the pieces are tiny. I have cut a ballgown out, but got no further with it, but I'll have to do it.

Just before Christmas I was in B&M, and saw a set of nine Barbie style dresses with a doll for £12.99, so I snapped them up. I felt bad in a way, because they were probably made by 4 year olds in a sweatshop in Korea or somewhere. The material is a bit rubbishy, but for £12.99 they're pretty good.

Anyway dgd loves them, so it was money well spent.
The clothes I'm planning at the moment are for a 16" baby doll, so more manageable, thankfully.
