My journey to a debt free life

I think that's a really insightful post, OBL, about regretting past wastefulness with money & worrying about future solvency. Like you, I came to my budget senses later in life & I have to try & accept the wasteful decades. We can't change them, so we can only learn from them & move on. I suppose one way of looking at it might be to think what our future security would look like if we hadn't had our LBMs at all. A scary thought, since our income has halved since then due to public sector 'austerity' cuts.
I remember when my ex left and I was left with two children and a mortgage with only a part time cleaning job,I had a complete melt down thinking I would lose my home, but I took it one day at a time and I concentrated on sorting out the present and look I'm still here in my house and my girls are all grown up now,we all survived one way or another,so there's no reason why that should changeOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201 -
Wow I'm up to 26 pages....how exciting :j I'm going to list some positives for each day I think just as a little reminder that good things happen everyday
Today I have
A roof over my head
Food to eat
Family who love me and who I love back
Four funny lovable pets
A job that I might moan about but actually quite like,I work with good people
Plenty of hobbies to keep me entertained
Today has been a very productive happy day,I've done lots of sewing and am feeling nice and chilled,DD and myself watched a programme tonight called Butterflies about a young boy who feels like he should be a girl,it was quite good, it's a three part thing so will be on next Sunday now,I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out
Tomorrow I have to go to the library to return a book and the post office to send some trainers back that DD ordered for herself,I'm testing myself tomorrow because I intend for it to be a NSD and I'm going into town so the temptation to spend will be there, but I'm not giving in,there isn't anything I need tomorrow so I might even leave my purse at home:eek:
Plans for the rest of the day depend on the weather,if it's raining I will be sewing if it's dry I'm cleaning out the chicken run and doing a bit of tidying in the garden, we will see what tomorrow bringsOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201 -
Ok so today's plans have changed,I'm not going to go out today because I've got to go into town tomorrow so decided to do everything then,it's wet and windy today so a day at home in the warm seems like a better plan
I had a lovely lie in this morning and a leisurely breakfast,I've taken the dog out and have a load of washing on the go,I don't have any house work to do today so can spend the day doing whatever I want
I'm going to do some more sewing and I'm thinking of making a banana bread later and maybe some biscuits,my DD is now a vegan so I thought I would try one of the recipes from her vegan cook bookOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201 -
Well I managed to make the banana bread and the biscuits ,the biscuits taste really nice, they are just plain vanilla flavoured and you can add whatever you want to the mix,I didn't have anything to add so left them plain, next time I might halve the butter and mix in some peanut butter as well to see if that works, the banan bread is yummy but not vegan so it's all mine :j:beer: Im going to slice it up and freeze it so I don't eat it all in one go
Today was also a NSD mainly because I didn't go out but I'm still pleased with that,I also got some sewing done this afternoon,I got the bit I had to unpick redone so that's a relief,I also helped DD hem her uniform trousers, she is now on her second placement at my hospital and is really enjoying it,it's so much better than the last place she went to
Positives for today are
I haven't spent any money:j
I have yummy banana bread to eat which was made from all things I had in the cupboards
My house is lovely and toasty warm
My arm is not hurting as much as it has been
Tomorrow I have DGS all day so that should be fun,we are going to see my friend for coffee in the morning then I have some errands to do in town so a busy dayOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201 -

Maybe write it out and stick it somewhere for those days when you don't see it so clearly?
As to the unwanted frame...3bay it? If you look on there, you're likely to find there's a market for them.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

What a shame! Maybe local small ads? Also could you find a usp to bump the price up a bit?

Yay study day over and done for another year, it's always quite an intense day and I'm knackered
Tomorrow I can have a lie in as I don't have much to do so I'm looking forward to that
Sadly today was not a NSD as I had a really bad flare up of neuralgia in my face so I had to go and buy some painkillers because I forgot to take my supply with me
I'm going to sit down tomorrow and have another look at my budget,I was supposed to do it on Monday but couldn't face it,so tomorrow is the day,I'm going to see what I need to live on and then try and be brave and phone StepChange again to tell them I need to adjust my payments accordingly,I also need to phone my daughters uni about the student exemption certificate that the council says I need so I can claim single persons living allowance, the uni reckon they don't need to do this so it will be interesting
Now I'm off to catch up on the diaries before having an early night hopefullyOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201
