Oh dear, just what you didn't need. :( This infection is really nasty though so I suppose hospital is the best place (unless you're on the staff and need those days off).

Hope he is better soon and you manage a good night's sleep tonight. Pizza for tea was a good choice given the circumstances. The other meal can be another day.

  • Hello! Just popping over to say thank you for your comments. I really hope your dad gets better soon too. My granddad has COPD anyway and ended up in hospital when he caught a chest infection which made him even worse (I think something must be going around) but as he refused to go to the doctors.. he's ended up in hospital! Must be that generation!

Good luck on your debt busting journey - I will check in on you every now and again, seeing as we're both newbies here!

Update on my Dad is that he is still in the hospital and they are keeping him until tomorrow,he has moved from the medical assessment unit to a ward and they are going to review him tomorrow, the docs werent happy with his breathing as he is still very breathless,I doubt he has told them that he was breathless before he got this chest infection,Im at work tomorrow so will be going to see him in my coffee break as the dept Im on tomorrow is the floor below his ward so I can just nip up for half an hour
I was going to go today but have been in town and dont actually feel too good myself,I have the chronic pain condition Fibromyalgia which has been beautifully under control for the last few months, however it doesnt respond well to stress and I suppose after the last few weeks I was due some pain and today is that day,I was kind of hoping I would get away with it but alas it was not meant to be,so Im having an hour to chill out before I go and cook the food I was meant to cook on Tuesday before I got diverted to the hospital
I did however manage to buy my DD birthday pressy today,She originally wanted a bangle type bracelet that she had seen online but then changed her mind because of shipping costs,so I suggested we went and looked into the jewellery shops in town,I have a lovely independent shop I go to that sells gifts and homewear products and they also sell jewellery so we looked in there and found a lovely bracelet for the same price as the original one she had seen, this one is made not far from us in Totnes by a young jeweller so is also supporting a local business which I also like to do,so all in all an satisfactory shopping trip
Im also looking forward to Monday as that is payday so I can sort out my budget for the month,I know March is going to be a very tight month because I have to pay back the overpayment from December so my wages will be less than normal,Im not panicking though because I dont have to pay the council tax this month, the council tax is £149 and my overpayment is £62 this month and the same again next month,so I;ve budgeted for this months council tax money to cover both months shortfall and I will have a small amount left over which will either be added to my emergency fund or used to pay for the meal out we are going for for DD birthday normally the birthday meal would be paid for with a CC because I wouldnt have budgeted for it but this year I will have so go me.
Im off to make Leek Croustade from my Cranks Cookbook in a minute,I dont have the book anymore but I did copy this recipe out before I got rid of it because its so yummy,it will last me for 4 meals as well so quite money saving

My DIL suffers with Fybromyalgia and I know it can be nasty at times. Apparently taking the right supplements and eating the right food can help. I have heard that cutting out gluten helps. Also I know that Hypnotherapy is a great help for it. My sister is a hypnotherapist and has had great success with clients suffering from it.

Hi Ploppy,I mostly manage it by gentle exercises,I walk a lot and once a week I go riding which also acts a a therapy to stop me getting too depressed,I take some supplements to try to keep myself healthy too,I did try cutting out gluten but it didn’t help me though I’ve heard it has helped others,I think mine gets worse if I get overtired and stressed out, when life is bumbling along with no unexpected things popping up I’m normally ok ,but with the stress of the last few weeks and then being ill for three weeks I suppose it was bound to happen,I just need to try to get back to normal now, make sure I get enough sleep just keep calm and carry on :)

Sorry to hear about your flare up, I hope it's over soon, and that your visit to your Dad goes well. I think you may need to have a quiet word to tell them about the breathlessness!

The bracelet sounds a very personal and individual present. Something to treasure! Nice to support a local business too.

I looked up the leek recipe in my copy of the Cranks book and it does indeed look very tasty. Does it come out looking like a sort of flan? I noticed leeks are on offer at Mr T so perhaps I need to think about trying it!

Hi Cherry, the flare up is just one of those things I’ve learned to deal with,it will calm down again at some point,I’m not as bad as i was when I was first diagnosed and I have found lots of ways of managing it now so I can usually stop it getting really bad
Dad was looking much better yesterday and the docs have had a word with him about being proactive with his health, they said his breathing is as good as it’s going to get at his age with his heart and that he just needs to keep himself well by going to the doctor if he has a cold that goes onto his chest instead of leaving it and also having a flu jab which he refuses to have
The leek recipe is lovely and so easy to make,it looks more like a veg crumble than a flan, you make a base with the breadcrumb mixture which then gets baked then you spread the leek mixture on top of The at and sprinkle breadcrumbs on top,i actually make extra of the base mixture and cover the top in that so the leeks are covered completely,it goes all crunchy with the nuts and the cheese
