Good luck with the job-hunting, Annie G.pollyanna24 wrote: »
I do find that I am very aware that I am not drinking. Would like to get to a stage where it just becomes natural not to.
Both my brother and Dad are tee total as think they are both think like me and don’t have an off button, and have managed to give up and say they don’t miss it.
If it’s in the genes, guess I must have it!
Looking for a special drink I can compensate with. At the mo, I’m drinking fizzy flavoured water and tea.
Looking forward to my first sat in ages with no effects of drink.
How long have your brother and father not been drinking? It's really easy once you've got past the initial stages of going teetotal to forget how tricky it is to navigate through the early phase of breaking the habit. In effect, you're creating a new habit and thoughts turn to old ones very easily, like finding oneself looking forward to a glass of wine when you get home. Stick with it and it will happen, but it is difficult to begin with.
Finding the replacement drink is key, but nothing's going to give you the temporary lift booze does, which is why booze is so compelling.
After four and a half years on Beck's Blue as my replacement drink I'm now at the point where I don't mind if I don't have it every evening, and often just go without anything but that did take the full four a half years. I've realised it makes me need to pee in the middle of the night and I'd rather not have the hassle of waking up, getting up, visiting the bathroom, going back to bed, getting back to sleepevery night. Can't be bothered with all that, so unless there's a positive reason to have a BB like being out with friends as I was yesterday (OH's birthday), I don't bother. I don't miss it most evenings at all, but that took years.
Well done, Pollyanna. Getting ahead by batch cooking is a great idea, but is there anything you could do that you'd enjoy just for the it's own sake? Hobbies you had to drop because you didn't have the time once you became a mum? Anything you want to read, catch up on that takes concentration? Just a thought.
7/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
My final total for December was 21/20 - didn't think I would mange it, but I did - so pleased!
Jan so far am on 5/26 - had a few with dinner on Saturday night.
Put me down for 5/5 for the SNC.
Good luck everyone for 2019!0 -
Urgh, I've only had 2 AF days this month and I feel horrible, so am trying to start the week with the very best intentions and am planning not to drink at all for the next 7 days.
I went on a bit of a bender yesterday afternoon and ended up ordering a cigarette delivery, gutted as I'd been doing really well not smoking, and what a waste of money. So, this morning I'm a bit delicate but full of resolve to sort myself out as I'm going down a path I don't want to go down.
So, sober and healthy AnnieG starts now.Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
That's good news about cutting back on the BB HB. :T When I started cutting down I just had to have a drink in my hand and thought about it obsessively every AF night for several weeks/months. Now on days I've decided to be AF, wine o'clock just comes and goes unnoticed. Generally I settle down and have a cuppa after dinner about 8 p.m. That's my signal for relaxing. (great to see a good long post from you BTW:A).
I'm hoping for a good week. I have a potentially stressful meeting on Thursday but I'll worry about that nearer the time.:) Today will definitely be AF.:D
4/10 AFDs please Shaggy and 1/4 for the SNC.0 -
