Glenda, maybe it's because we are so close to Christmas now and everyone is gearing up for festivities so it feels a bit like a holiday even though it isn't, don't you think? And also it's so cold and dark and it's nearly the end of the year, it just feels like the end of something. I'm as happy as you it's heading towards Friday btw :)

I'm feeling like that and I'm not even gearing up. We had our first pre Christmas event on 26th November! It'll be a struggle to hit my target this month. I'm not drinking to excess but there are too many 'occasions'. Thank goodness it's only once a year and that I try to beat my target most other months.:)

    5/10 AFDs please Shaggy.

    Evening!
2/3 on the SNC and 9/15 for December tonight. I'm struggling with my mood and am drinking to try and make myself feel better which only works in the short term.
Still no job, starting to think this might be a long term scenario.

  • Aimimg for 13/21 today, but another work do so we shall see.

A couple of interesting articles in the news: Keith Richards has decided he can't be bothered with heavy drinking any more

And an update from Adrian Chiles who seems to be hosting impromptu therapy sessions when trying to watch the footie:

Blimey maman, November is early!! The shops certainly get the Christmas stuff out round about then or earlier though.

Glenda, thanks for the reads - will have a look at them when I get to work, ha ha. I thought Keith Richards gave up booze a while ago? ... Maybe not!

 Oh no, don't tell me that?!?!?!? For some reason I've never associated caffeine with chocolate but now you mention it.......

Sorry .... I can't stand Horlicks but it works for some people ....
I know my OH would winge a lot if I was listening something in bed, he is always last to bed no matter what time I go. It seems I am the prompt to start getting there so I suppose I have to be more disciplined in future.

I use an earpiece, Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, the World Service and when all of that fails, my ipod and I make myself go to bed as early as I can, and read until 11.30 when I'm supposed to turn the light out. But I love reading .... I can't get to sleep easily without people talking about interesting things, and the more interested I am, the faster I fall asleep. OH does the same now, because his insomnia was driving him mad. We now have long conversations about interesting stuff we've heard overnight!

Sorry I'm being tardy about posting. I'm horrendously busy and really, really struggling to do some difficult things well at the moment. It'll calm down a bit after New Year, but it might only slow down to just frantic until the weather warms up in the spring. I'm still here, and will catch up as and when I can.

Well done Shaggy in the AF thing. 14/31 please.
    Better is good enough.

We got in early deliberately with the November one because I think service and food can deteriorate as you get closer to Christmas. We had a meal last Saturday at a banquet and it was appalling. :(

I'm another that listens to the radio at night HB. DH does too but I like it to go off when I've fallen asleep. I have a radio that I can set to do that. It's taken some training but I've got DH to do the same now. I need to find another channel though as too many noisy podcasts are being used as cheap fillers during the night.:(

Thanks for the links Glenda. I feel good reading the Adrian Chiles piece. It's good that he's proving that it's possible for some to cut down and that giving up isn't the only way. A bit like this thread really.:D

For me, alcohol is like fire, water, religion, politics and many other things: it’s not the thing itself, it’s what you do with it. It can do you and others harm, or a little good. I think I am managing to edge from one to the other.

    From Adrian Chiles. Like it!!!

10/15 for December today. I'm in a massive strop because it's my Bootcamp Christmas party tonight and I can't go because I've got to be at N&S at 6am tomorrow. I haven't got an office party to go to obviously so this was my only night out.
    Bah humbug.
