What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Cathybird, it had reached the point when it was the most important relationship in my mind OR booze. I couldn't have both. No contest. I know some people faced with that choice don't manage to make it, but maybe they're further down the booze road than I was, who knows.

Honey Bear, this reminds me of the book "Drinking: A Love Story" by Caroline Knapp in which she says that her most important relationship WAS booze - it took over everything else. The men in her life (she had two boyfriends and couldn't quite choose between them) faded into the shadows compared to the bottle. Maybe that's why people keep going down the road to destruction. :(

This year I've developed a minor health issue which is exacerbated by alcohol. What I find scary is that at times of great stress - like last week - I can drink knowing it will cause me trouble - it's only minor trouble but nevertheless ...it reminds me of Georgie Best etc who drank their way through a new liver...(not that I'm anything like Georgie Best)

It's strange how thoughts of hangovers and tiredness and all sorts can go out of the window when booze takes over.:( Good to see that this week has been much better for you.:)

do you know, Shaggy, I suspect this is quite common among people who are or have been regular drinkers. I've got an eczema-like skin condition that flares up every now and then and I'm fairly sure alcohol doesn't really help.

George Best's family and friends are probably still really angry at him (at a guess). I would be.

One at the weekend for me please Shaggy.
Thanks for your good wishes for the interview, it went very well... it's a bit more junior than what I've done previously so I don't know whether that will go against me, if I were the recruiter I'd have doubts. Anyhoo, I have another one on Tuesday, I'm sure I'll get a proper job sooner or later.
