    Anybody else?
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Really sorry the above ^ has got some sort of bug in it; so I've had to delete the smileys to get it to post. Really sorry guys.

Sorry to hear your sister is having a horrible time, Shaggy. (((hugs))) This website is obviously having a hissy fit.

Honey Bear, do you know, the Christmas you've described sounds excessive, but in fact so many people do that on Christmas Day - start drinking really early and then keep right on doing it! I've done it myself more than once (think it can partly depend on who you spend the day with??)

I think my tolerance for alochol is/was quite low because I take a herbal anti-anxiety/anti-depressant because the other three people I spent all those Christmases with didn't do the throwing up bit or go to bed early, but two of them do fall asleep most years watching the Christmas Day Eastenders episode. (Which is understandable in my book, but Debbie really, really loves it, so in her case - not so much.)

I didn't post that because I wanted to, I posted it because it is a very sobering reflection on how I used to live and why I can't afford to think, as I did recently, that I could have a glass of champagne occasionally. I thought that was completely normal because all four of us did it year after year after year. If there aren't any kids involved, I think quite a few people might recognise it. I have to pray no-one with kids has that kind of Christmas, but I'm not that naive.

Huge congratulations Annie G on the job! Most of life's a compromise, and the vast majority of successful job-seekers are those who have a job, or recent work experience. It gives you an income, and it's the start of something,

    2/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Thank you all for the good wishes about the job.

I'm calling 2/15 for December and 1/3 for the SNC. I was fully intending to get a bottle of red to sink tonight, had my shoes on and car keys in my hand to go to the shop and then stopped myself, ran upstairs and put my pyjamas on and felt very pleased that I did so.

HoneyBear that description of Christmas is very close to what I usually do, I've normally got a hangover by about 3pm, so have a snooze and then get up and carry on. Not sure what this year will be like, but I'll try to moderate it a bit.

HB thank you for posting your ‘Christmas past’. I think with drinking, that it is very easy to let it become a routine and I know that if someone asked me, or if I asked myself, ‘Why are you drinking tonight?’ my reply would be ‘Because...that’s what I’ve always done on a Friday night’ (or whatever the occasion might be). The routine itself becomes the motivation and the justification. It’s an insidious thing really.

Still do not know what target to set for Dec. I can’t get out of the family get-togethers and I know they will be stressful and my only way of getting through them will be to open some bottles.

Have to be realistic about this so can I say 17 days AF for December.
