Cutting Down Alcohol Thread

That's true!
But I also need to cut down on our spend on alcohol to retire...back in 2010 OH and I averaged £6 a month on alcohol in our food shop, in 2009 it was £8 a month....alcohol was a special treat as we paid off our mortgage....I don't know if we can get back there but we need to be doing better....
Yes, that's another factor, life gets a lot cheaper if you cut back on booze. It's a win-win.0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
8 please Shaggy

Thank you so much for your kind words cathy.
You're right that I don't set a massive target as I know I'm more suited to achievable SMART targets than aspirational. My maxim is 'meet it or beat it' and looking at my yearly average I've done that. I also know that I enjoy a drink and have to have a plan that fits in with RL. And I've found my stop button so on the days I drink I know when I've had enough. So all good.:D
That's all good for me but if there's anything this thread has taught me is that we're all different so what works for me isn't necessarily right for everyone else. What we do share is a wish to be in control of our drinking rather than vice versa.:(
Must dash. Off to football in the rain. Why???:(0 -

Morning! I don't usually post at weekends but my sleep pattern seems to be all over the place at the moment!Think the nerves had the better of me on Friday morning, I was up really early and it's had a knock on effect all weekend.
Anyway, nerves aside I felt the interview went really well and although it won't be confirmed until tomorrow I have been told that I gave a good interview and that I should progress to the next stage in the recruitment process (it has 5 stages and this was only the 2nd part!). Fingers crossed
I also smashed my target at SW yesterday, but when I joined I set my target weight at 14st 13lbs. I thought I would be happy seeing a "14" but now that I'm focussed I want to see the next number down!! 11lbs to go!
Honey Bear, love the comment about folk transforming their lives. At the beginning of this year my finances were a mess, I was 17.5 stone and drinking like a fish. You need to be in the right frame of mind to get things sorted, and have a little bit of luck too. When things outwith your control go wrong, it is very easy to let the things that you do have control of slip .
Dropped a day yesterday, went out for a meal in the afternoon and had a few drinks, was home by 7 and as I don't keep any drink at home there was no temptation to carry on, so not feeling guilty in the slightest.
10/26,
1/2 weekenders

Wise words from everyone on cutting down
. What counts as sensible drinking is different for everyone. At the moment I'm much happier being AF but that could well change in the future. The most positive thing for me is feeling in control on the choices I make.
11/25 for me so far. Can I sign up for 5/5 for the SNC as well?

Can I sign up for the SNC for the coming week please?
Not been able to catch up properly on posts, so can't remember who commented on what, but it's nice to see such encouragement. It is so true that people disappear when they aren't doing well, as I have done it so many times. But it's best to keep in touch to get back on the straight and narrow sooner. I for one certainly need all the help I can get when times are bad, any help to get a bit of control has got to be good and shouldn't involve any guilt - words easily said. I know I feel dreadful when I lose a whole month to alcohol and disappear!
I don't have any particular future plans with drinking right now and don't feel ready to make any at the present time. I am now on 41 days without alcohol. I never really overdrink at one time as unfortunately (or fortunately in the case of alcohol) I have a phobia about vomiting, so always hit stop long before I get there. But I can easily slip back into 2 glasses of wine every night.
But on the positive side, I am now not automatically thinking of pouring a glass when I settle for my evening meal, this took a while.
I am also left wondering what I needed it for. I don't feel any great burden in my life now I am without it so it wasn't helping me cope, so what did I get from it? Also I am not the sort of person who goes to these social occasions when you are in a position where you need confidence to get through the night. So I can only assume it was a habit I got into, albeit a bad one that didn't really offer a lot.
Sorry for rambling, just thoughts of the day for me.0 -
