That's good news on the builders Shaggy - the constant chaos and even just having people in the house all the time can really wear you down
5 and a half months but it should be less hassle from here.
What's left? A door to swing Monday, an electrician to fix some lighting (as yet unspecified date) and a carpet layer to lay vinyl in two bathrooms next Saturday....
After that it's decorating (and a bit of carpeting) which we are doing ourselves at our own pace....
It's been stressful...however the quality of the work is good (albeit slow!)....7 weeks over estimate...What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Amazingly I jumped on the wagon last night- sister whatsapped me and we ended up chatting until quarter past 11 at which point I poured some tonic into a glass and then I thought nooooooo..
So an AF Friday....:)What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Having builders around for that length of time would drive anyone to drink, Shaggy. We've got three big and beefy plumbers replacing our boiler which is majorly disruptive - they've taken over the kitchen (obviously), the dining room, the yard, the back alley and the sundeck. We're using a bit of money from the sale of a tiny holiday chalet to pay for it, so part of the budget was eating out in the evenings, rather than trying to cook in the chaos. After three nights of fabby food (the best pub food ever) I got the Co-0p meal deal which was all ding cuisine apart from the steaks OH dealt with. Best workmen in the house strategy ever but it wouldn't work for seven months!
They left copper pipe stains on the carpet, CH radiator gunk on the new carpets in the two letting rooms and have yet to finish the boxing around where the new boiler is and where the old boiler was. HOWEVER, we really, really like all three of them, and as long as I keep them charged with buckets of tea and coffee, with packets of biscuits coming out of their ears, they've been a pleasure to have in the house. The lodger has settled for a fan heater and hot water bottle in his freezing cold room with a cheerful attitude and that helps a lot.
OH locks himself away in hid eyrie which means I get to make all of the decisions, and I do work that can be interruppted every 15 minutes and accept that I won't be able to concentrate on anything for a week. The male cat and dog both think they're plumbers mates, and the guys have been great about them. The female cat settles for supervising the lodger's washing up. I kid you not - they're the most sexist animals I've ever come across but they're having a great time.

That sounds not too bad considering - you must be relieved to be close to the end, I guess, Shaggy? ... Decorating can be quite fun, especially if you can do it after the stress levels have gone downSeven weeks is not great but at least it's nearly done and I hope worth it!
