I was possibly going to lunch with a friend but now I'm not so definitely an AFD for me, particularly because I'm out tomorrow night, so now on 3/21.

ElusiveLucy, I was very briefly involved with a human resources department back in the day, and got to see the interview process up close for quite a few interviews, and I have to say I think the whole thing isn't really much use in terms of determining what candidates are really like - also, interviewers really end up looking for ways they can exclude people - say they've got six good-ish candidates and one job, they look for ways they can eliminate five of the people - and it got ridiculous, I can remember one interviewer saying "I didn't like the way he held his mug"!!!! It doesn't sound as though they were particularly fair to you. Fingers crossed for the next interview. :)
In April I am taking a break from buying: Books

Morning! Checking in a very early 5/31 for today as I'm working this evening in Aberdeen then Inverness and also working back in Aberdeen tomorrow. A lot of driving and long hours but it keeps me out of mischief!

Good luck with the interview when it happens ElusiveLucy!

Have a great weekend everyone :)

Elusive Lucy, the whole idea of interviews is ridiculous. There's a very old trope that says that if we behaved once in a job in the way that we said we would at the interview we'd be sacked instantly. What interviews now appear to be are highly scripted and choreographed interactions where both parties are expected to stick to unwritten rules and perform a highly specialised dance.

As CathyBird says, it is accepted that everyone shortlisted for interview can do the job, and the whole idea of them is to see who will fit into the existing team dynamic, not who would perform best in terms of getting the job done. Interviewers are generally no better than anyone else at reading people - we all jump to uninformed conclusion and make spectactularly irrational judgements.

There is an ocean of research that shows that the people that perform best at interview are not, generally, the people who would or could perform best in any role, but because we most firms can't be bothered to actually research how to assess people's skills, we're stuck with this archaic method of recruitment. The only way to get the job is to dance the dance the prospective employer has chosen - it shows who is willing 'to play the game' by their rules, and therefore malleability.

I've been on both sides of the table and I loathed both equally, but having the power was definitely the easier role and most interviewers forget that.

Good luck with the job hunting, and if you enjoy an interview as an interviewee it's generally a very good sign. It should be a free and frank exchange of ideas and thoughts, but it's actually designed to be anything but. If you feel uncomfortable, someone on the other side of the table is enjoying their power a bit too much.

Thanks for the welcome :o3/31 for me today... Feeling hopeful I can manage the whole month (easy to say that though when we're only 3 days in :rotfl:)

It's how we all feel at the start, but it can work if you stick with us and it. Good luck.

    5/31 please, Baileys.
    Better is good enough.

    5/27 please Baileys.
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

I have absolutely no problem with not being personally awarded one Baileys. I just love seeing them, so I really, really hope that people set themselves targets they can exceed!
