Didn't even really give drink a thought after dinner yesterday. I felt like I wanted something as a treat, but for once, it didn't necessarily have to be alcohol.

My target for the year is 183. I just want to be able to say I've done 50% of the year not drinking. I'm up to 56, so 46.28%. Need to up my game!

As FatRab has said: Two words - Dark. Chocolate. A little goes a very long way, too!

Sad at my advanced age and general decrepitude that I need to tell others to make me think do I want that as opposites to either 'oh s*d it' or more often 'I have had such a day I deserve a drink'. Neither very helpful.

I think of 'my advanced age' as completely the opposite to you! Yes, the decrepitude has set in (my back's hurting this morning, self-inflicted while gardening - how middle aged/older/elderly does that sound?!), but with it a realisation that advancing years have taught me that t!here are some things that are easier when done in a different way.

The confidence of youth that I can do whatever I want and get away with it has been slightly modified to 'I can do whatever I want as long as I plan it out carefully, get all the support I need in place and then commit to it.'

Strangely enough, I was thinking that out while I was trundling the dog this morning, how my attitudes have changed completely as I've got a few years under the belt and life feels far more stable than it used to.

One of my key drivers when it came to giving up the booze was that this wasn't going to get better of it's own accord. There's something very tragic about older people who are completely out of control and utterly helpless, be it because of booze or drugs. I just didn't want to be one of them, whether it was falling about in polite society because I'd had too much sherry or falling over on the street because I'd had too much gin in the pub. (Actually, now that I think about it I've done both a time or too.)

Hello everyone. Can I get involved? I've been meaning to try and join in since October but life, and wine, kept getting in the way :o I would like to aim for 31 days and today am 2/31 :)

I think you're getting into big trouble over mentioning decrepitude Maggie!:rotfl: I really don't think age has anything to do with putting a plan in place to help achieve something. There are all sorts of techniques out there like writing lists or distraction/displacement or rewards and definitely using buddies to help.

I watched the Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall programme last night on obesity and just one example was him joining up with another guy to go running together.

Yes, of course, we could all do this alone but would we???;)

    No drinking today.

    2/10 AFDs please Baileys.

Out of the starting blocks with 1/9 for Tuesday night, but fell at the first hurdle last night. Got some rather soul destroying feedback from a job interview and had a couple of drinks. Luckily the kick in the teeth was followed quite quickly by a call about a telephone interview elsewhere, so it wasn't all bad.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

Hey ElusiveLucy, sorry to hear about the job interview, I don't know what it involved obviously but just think these things can be so random sometimes, and the impression people can get can be so off beam - it's hard not to get upset by it but it might not mean anything either. I hope your telephone interview goes rather better x

Morning all, actually not sure whether today will be an AFD or not, as I am having lunch with a friend (hopefully). It's a beautiful day too, a good day to be out and about. :)

Thanks Cathybird. From how the interview was structured I've worked out that the feedback came from two people who were already in the role i was interviewing for and they were just a little bit hostile. The feedback really showed up the interview process because their output were nothing like the real me. Of course that can also be blamed on what I said in interview, but their scripted questions didn't ask the right things to ascertain my level of experience. Anyway, research done for today's telephone interview and fingers duly crossed.

No drinky poos for me last night so now 2/9. Need to get to at least 5 AFDs before I go away next weekend, which will be difficult with the BH and OH's birthday next week.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

Happy bank holiday weekend everyone. Will not be remotely AF for me as I am going to "something" social everyday. Plan is to make sure its moderated as sun and hangovers just don't mix.

Welcome lonely rat good to have you on the team. Hope you enjoy the break if you get one

Elusive Lucy I am a big believer in things happening at the right time and with your other interview in place this may well be the job for you. Sounds like a competancy based interview you had which I hate as its too scripted to see the real person. Good luck with your next one I will keep my fingers crossed :)
