I applied just within the deadline - posted special delivery on the Friday and arrived at passport office Monday. Received a letter stating application received after the deadline so the new rate applies. They are asking for an additional £50 for our family's passports. What can I do?

My guess is you have 2 choices pay it and get your passports or nit pay and dont get them.

    How did you apply

On friday online ( and then posted)

    or by post on monday

we know they applied by post as they're being asked for £50 more (4 x £12.50). The online application increase is only £3 and 50 is not divisible by 3 as a whole number.

In that case assuming the charge increased on or before the Monday the application was received then the increased charge is due IMO

I had 90% of the paperwork ready to roll, but photobox didn't get the mugshots back in time. A delay that will cost me £37.50

    Ah well, if I can't take a joke, I shouldn't get a passport.

The increased charge started from Tuesday.
I have proof of delivery signed for on Monday.

I can't be the only person, surely?

I suspect that it's not when the application was delivered by RM, but when the Passport Office open it and log it onto their system.
I have a renewal in at the moment; RM tracking shows it signed for at 08.48 last Thursday but it was only registered on the Passport tracking service at 14.31 on Friday.

If you send a screenshot of when it was signed for to customers services In Southport along with your reference numbers you may get a refund. Worth a try. You could also call and give the tracking number to the agent and they may be able to make a decision locally
