That last line should be 2018.

It says below that it currently costs £72.50 and is increasing to £72.50(online)/£85(post) in March.

Cost of British passport to increase
The price of a British passport is to rise by £12.50 from 27 March for those applying by post.

Currently, an adult's passport costs £72.50 regardless of how you apply for it but under government plans this would rise by 17% up to £85.

The cost of online applications will also go up - but only by £3 to £75.50.

Fantastic, another whopping increase people can't afford !

Cheap if you go abroad often I suppose, but very expensive for those who might only go once or twice in the lifetime of the passport.

When you take into account a one day entry ticket to Alton Towers is £50, is £75.50 for a 10 year passport really that expensive?

Even if used twice it’s only £40 on top of the cost of the trip

yet they can afford to go on foreign holiday, how curious.

I'd hardly class a £3 increase for a 10 year service to be a whopping increase.

The link between a passport and a day ticket to alton towers is pretty tenuous. Especially when you consider you can buy a season pass for £55, so the cost per day isn't linear.

Alton Towers has to provide an expensive service every time you visit, while the passport cost is all up front.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/118636/17949-breakdown-costs-passport.pdf

    Application Processing £31.60
    FCO Consular Premium £15.62
Production & Personalisation of Book £10.79
    Delivery £3.30
    Overhead/Administration £16.19
    Total £77.50

I'm pretty sure however that all those numbers are made up to come to the figure they want. They've decided they want a new total and they're now busy working out how to make it look reasonable.
