O/S Daily Tuesday 30th January 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark, looks cold and frosty.

Dinner last night was a change from the plan as wanted to use up some of what didn't get eaten over the weekend, so we had pizza, hot quiche, jacket potatoes, beans and cheese and salad. Tonight will be a bit late because hairdresser is coming so we'll be having fish, menfolk are having scampi, chips and beans/veg, I'll be having fishcakes, jacket potato and veg.

Work yesterday was all or nothing, but we had one person back from being off sick, but 2 people off on annual leave, but we managed as you do. A colleague had a nasty incident with a customer being very verbally abusive and then his "mate" decided to join in when they weren't getting the answers they wanted, we were on the verge of calling the Police, but we know who they were so they will be banned from coming in, my poor colleague was shaking, we sent her off for a break and a cuppa. His "mate" also nearly headbutted another colleague - their behaviour and attitude was appalling and if either of my boys spoke or treated people that way they'd be on the receiving end of a telling off from me and their dad, probably their aunts and uncles and grandparents too, there's just no need and some of the stuff they were saying and the language was horrific. Incident forms were filled out by 3 of us who were directly involved.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the start nmlc, hope your DM is still improving.

Damp and miserable this morning again, we did have glimpses of the sunshine yesterday but then the rain fell again.

I went shopping after work yesterday, DD had given me a £5 off a £30 spend at Lidl so I went there, it's hard to spend £30 when there's just me here! I bought lots of veggies so will make some soup this evening.

We had another netball match yesterday but sadly lost - their team were really tall compared to ours. The children all enjoyed it though.

Not much else to report apart from there's something stuck under the 'S' key on this laptop so I have to keep going back to press it really hard!

Have a good Tuesday. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

It has turned really cold today. I think I had got used to the milder weather and this has come as a bit of a shock! I need to venture outside and put the recycling out, or it will be sat in the shed for another two weeks.

Later this morning I’m going to meet my sister in law and niece to do some shopping in the town where they live. I want to get a birthday present for my brother and their input is really helpful because I’m never sure what to get him.

It will be a nice trip out, and means that I won’t feel like I should be getting on with any household chores.

I had a phone call yesterday from the manager of the organisation I volunteered at until I became too unwell to continue last summer and he has some voluntary work I can do from home. I’m really pleased about this because I do like to do something worthwhile. It gives me a sense of purpose.

Hugs to those who are poorly or caring for someone who is and those with troubles/worries.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Thanks for the thread nmlc, I temped in a place like that, in the middle of a heatwave I couldn't have a fan on my desk in case someone threw it at me. We were charged £5 a week to drink from the tap, £10 if we wanted tea or coffee. We had a stabbing one day, two clients fell out, I left not long after!

Hugs to those in need, take care of yourselves.

Our boat is being moved back today to our usual mooring, so no more tv reception, hey ho I'll have to read more.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you nmlc for starting us off. Hope your mum is getting better x

It's cold here this morning, Steve has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready for school/college. Becky had a good day yesterday, she wasn't allowed to go straight into her classes but had to spend the time in the SEN block as she needed to be monitored. She enjoyed being there though and got to watch a film. All in all she was out for 3 hours which was fantastic. Today her lady from the psychosis team is taking her out for a hot chocolate so I will have to go and get her up in a couple of hours.

Phoebe went back into school as well and also had a much better day than she thought she would so I am very happy for her.

I have a new washing machine being delivered this morning. Steve couldn't disconnect the old one so I shall slip the delivery men a tenner to do it. I am looking forward to having a working washing machine again. The laundry is already piling up.

I am going to cook a roast chicken dinner for tonight. I was going to make a beef stew but the chicken was short dated in the delivery yesterday. I was upstairs being ill so Steve accepted it. I love roast chicken so it is no hardship really.

That's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope you have a better day at work than yesterday. There's really no need to be faced with abuse like that.

After morning rain yesterday we had a glorious afternoon with wall to wall sunshine - then the rain came back! Today a mixed bag is promised but it will be colder!

I was a busy bee yesterday and got all the windows cleaned inside as promised, cleaned the oven, did some washing, potted up the lentil & bacon soup for the freezer, then made a big pan of Bolognese and, when cool, that got potted up in portions for the freezer too. Lunch was some of the soup and a wrap and dinner the remains of Sunday's gammon with baby potatoes and salad.

Today we are resuming our Tuesday away-days so no jobs planned! I am thinking Otley as we've not been since pre-virus in November. I have missed rummaging in all the cs, especially St Gemma's where everything is 99p. And maybe the f & v stalls on the little market will have a few bargains when packing up. Then we will backtrack to Ilkley for a late lunch as usual.

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried or lonely. DUMPLING I hope yesterday went ok for BECKY, Take care all xx Ooops cross posting DUMPLING, am pleased all went well for Becky x

Morning all, a quick post as am running late today.
Judi, hope Grump is ok, what a horrible shock for him and for anyone that was there.
Nmlc I hope you have a better day, free from unacceptable behaviour.
Dumpling, hope your dear girls have another positive day.

Work today for me, I chose not to bring my laptop home this weekend and also chose not to read emails on my work phone, if anyone really needed me urgently, they would ring me. This 24/7 availability culture is awful, I probably didn't tell you but I had someone phone me on boxing day to ask me what someone else was doing the following day. Since it was a bank holiday for everyone, I had no idea, how the holy H was I to know.
Must get going, see you later
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

I haven't posted for a couple of days, we were out for the day on Sunday, and busy yesterday.

Usual Tuesday ahead - exercise class this morning, and quiz tonight.
This afternoon I've got a small sewing job to do for a friend, and that's it. Dh will vacuum when i'm out, and there'll be dusting and a bit of tidying to do.

Hope everyone has a good Tuesday. Dumpling,I'm glad Becky got through her day yesterday.

    Morning Everyone,

Colder here today and a slight frost, so heating back on for a while.

Judi Hope your husband is ok after witnessing that accident.

So yesterday, I managed to sort my moms telephone line out, after having the same number for 40+ years, the number to moms no longer exists, I phoned the number this morning to check they had disconnected it, and they have. Mom had not been able to use the telephone for maybe 12 months, as unfortunately her dementia had got to that stage, where she could not remember how to use a telephone.

Today I must vacuum the living room and then it will be work. Straight from work I will go and visit mom, on the way I shall buy some toiletries that she needs.

This evening I shall watch 'Holby'

Have a good day everyone xx

Good morning chums and a frosty start to the day here in Kent, looks very pretty though and looking out of the window by my computer I can see the trees looking very pretty and silvered.I will make sure to wrap up warm when I go to Dobbies this morning as its coffee morning for U3A there.A free coffee and a natter with friends in the warm is just the thing for a chilly day.Tonight is quiz night at the pub so a busy day ahead.

Hope all the 'poorlies' who have had this dreadful bug are recovering.
I bet your pleased at Becky's progress dumpling hopefully she may have turned a small corner to recovery.
