Do my posts need to be more clear?
I just pointed out (or at least I thought I did) that although some people (me, probably you and probably the poster who made the comment about the cost of a passport being 'the price of a couple of pints' a year) don't have to worry about the cost of renewing their passports, other people do.
Especially if it's a family's first holiday abroad and they may have 3, 4 or even more to fund all at the same time.
I did not suggest that there should be an alternative way to pay for passports.PompeyPete wrote: »Although I never paid for my passports, I had to go where I was told to go and when I was told to go.....no ifs or buts. So I [and my family] paid for my passports with us having to discipline ourselves to the needs of my employer(s).
And don't benefit from subsidised housing and a bloody good pension at the end of it.onomatopoeia99 wrote: »Still a bargain. Approx 2p/day over 10 years, so start putting the copper coins in a jar now.
I was simply looking at it from the perspective of someone less financially fortunate.0 -

 That is this thread.0 -
If anyone is finding it a struggle to buy a passport, maybe they should rethink the idea of going on holiday. Even the increased cost is going to be dwarfed by the expense of a holiday.
So we'll add a random £10, £20, £30 to something used over year or two & it's all ok.
What a false argument.0 -

There was a main holder and a spouse. The main holder could be male or female. It wasn't sexist, at least not in the 80's - it might have been at some time earlier.
As a boy I hadn't twigged the main holder aspect.
That was the 1960s - not sure if was any different then from later.
Most would be in the man's name as main holder ?0 -
My 15 year old daughter's passport expires in April this year..
and she is16 in October this year.
Apart from a holiday starting shortly, dont have any more overseas hols planned this year.
Pondering whether to renew her (child) passport before the prices go up - but then she will only get a 5 year passport, and will still be on a child's version until 20 + ( if thats allowed ? )
Or just stick to original plan, wait till October and get Adult 10 year .
I know the increases are a pittance in the big picture, but this is MSE right0 -
Do you really think holidays is the only reason people travel? Someone I know is abroad for his father's funeral at the moment.
No doubt the cost of last minute travel for your friend's sad event still dwarfs the cost of a passport, which was the point I was trying to make.0
