    Hardly sarcasm.

The OP is trying to be helpful and along come those who attempt to make a lame Brexit 'point'.

Its about as funny as misuse of apostrophes.

Passports are not the only form of ID though.

I think the sarcasm accusation was directed to me not the OP unless I am guilty also of misunderstanding a post or two.

I will now go in search of misplaced apostrophes to add today's catalogue of humour.

Ha! The spell checker wanted to correct catalogue and humour above to catalog and humor.

Methinks the spellchecker too does not have British English as their first language.

No, but as discussed on a thread here a few days ago, if you don't drive then there are very few alternative forms of photo ID which are acceptable to banks. There are also some people, including me, who have none of the other documents banks typically request for ID verification.

I wasn't anticipating the thread to turn into a long debate about the merits of blue vs burgundy. It was just a quick heads up to those who might need to renew a passport soon, who need it for ID, but who might not follow the travel board.

Why would you use a £75.50 passport as ID when you can get a £34 provisional license which will also last 10 year until you have to update the photos for £14. So it's much cheaper.

There have been at least ten increases since 1992 (when it was £18).

Wasn't the cost £77.50 reduced by £5 to £72.50 in 2012 by the Cameron Govt so if you renew online it is 50p more expensive than it was 5 years ago?
Of course that won't suit those whose agenda is to show Brexit is pushing prices up or the wicked Conservative Govt. which is seeking to keep the poor in the UK by making travel abroad unaffordable.

But not everybody is allowed to apply for (and/or retain) a driving licence - A £34 provisional driving licence is not an option if you are blind, for example, or have had to give up your full licence due to age or medical conditions.

The eligibility for passports for UK citizens is much wider, even if they are pricier.

I registered for GOV.UK Verify a year or two back and since then all my bank applications have all sailed through without any ID verification requests.. There are seven Government partners including Barclays and Royal Mail but I was directed to the Experian portal and I had no problem registering.

I do have a current passport but my driving licence is the old paper type without a photo which I will not need to replace until I am 70.

I'm guessing this is a coincidence.

Incidentally, are Equifax a "partner"?

Oh the irony of being accused of so many things by someone failing to understand the most English example of the lowest form of wit.

Hint: The big grinning emoticon is a dead giveaway.

    :rotfl:

Please accept my apologies, I'd overlooked the emoticon and therefore that humour was involved. I must be too used to the tiny minority of idiots posting caustic, negative or just plain argumentative replies !!
