Sorry to hear about your car , people are very naughty driving off . Getting your own repairs done is sometimes cheaper than the excess and at least you won't have to pay an excess and lose your NCD .

Good old you tube . Anyway hope you have a good weekend apart from this mishap not your fault of course.

Where you going on your hols ? You may have said previously but I don't remember . Not long to go now.

Thanks Cumbria. I'm actually looking forward to learning more about repairing the car. I've never been confident with cars so doing little things like this might increase my confidence :)

I was worried it would wipe out my rainy day fund but £100 is okay.

We're going to Boscastle in Cornwall :) Not sure if I mentioned it here but the owners of our original booking emailed me last week to cancel it as they had to have some repair work done during the week we were due to be there. There was a lot of panicking, but we found somewhere else which seems to be in a better location and only cost a bit more. Looking forward to some cream teas and coastal walks :D

I went on my honeymoon to Boscastle , many moons ago . As for cars Lilith I don't even put air in my own tyres ! I do have a good idea about car bits after having a mechanic for years who showed me every bit he replaced and what it did. Good on you wanting to do bits yourself.

Glad you got the accommodation sorted out and in your favour as well.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

We put the new (well, old) bumper on yesterday and it was surprisingly easy and straightforward! I know I could do it if something like that happened again (touch wood it doesn't!).

I've not been as good at reigning in the spends this month. I treated us to a takeaway on Friday night, although that came out of a small pot I have from some survey payments I've saved. I'm trying to keep some of it for when we go to Cornwall as the parking can be expensive. I've also been buying the odd snack item here and there, but done regularly it soon adds up. I'll resolve to be better next month.

I'm still waiting for the return of our deposit from the place that had to cancel our original booking. I did email to say we wanted our deposit back as we couldn't book another date, but they hadn't replied so I sent them an email asking if they got my response. I always get a bit worried that I'm going to be fleeced but we'll see. It was on my credit card so I think I'm protected in that sense.

Lovely weather here today, despite the forecast being for rain, so we got out with the pooch and she's now crashed out on the sofa :o

Well, after chasing my supervisor twice I finally got my thesis back on Tuesday. He'd made about six comments, most of which were to delete/change certain words....so he clearly used the four weeks well

Anyway, the thesis is now with the examiners so fingers crossed they can look through it soon as I'd like to attend my graduation in July. But, most important thing is that I actually qualify!

Not sure if I mentioned before, but a friend of ours passed away a little while ago and we went to his funeral earlier this week. It was a lovely service and from the venue you could see the countryside all the way to the horizon. A fitting place for him.

Potentially exciting things are happening. Hubby has been talking about doing some private work for years, but I think he's been worried about taking that step so nothing has ever come of it. I've told him before that he wouldn't need to give up his job, just do a bit of private work here and there and see if it builds, but he was reluctant.

I'd been considering doing some volunteer work in my profession and then someone said I should be getting paid for it. I questioned my "worth" in terms of people paying for my services, but I came to realise that I need to do it and put the fears aside. So, I started looking into things and spoke to hubby and he's on board. Maybe he feels better that we're both doing it together. He spoke to a colleague who has given us some useful information about doing private work and we're going to look at an office at the weekend to see how often it's available and whether it fits with our availability. Early days, but it's something I feel excited about and I think it'll be nice for hubby and I to work on a project together :)

Exciting times ahead for both you and DH . The thesis malarkey, is final over , thank goodness . I do hope you get to you4 graduation in July as well , excuse for a new outfit.

Sorry to hear of your friend passing away , but the scene you saw sounds very peaceful.

Onwards and upwards for you, extra funds will mean quicker the debt being paid off. Enjoy your weekend.

Thanks Cumbria. Yes, once I'm qualified there'll be the payrise from work which will give me more spare cash to direct at the debt. One thing I'm proud of is that I haven't got further into debt since deciding to be more sensible with my money, so that's a positive.

I'm sure this private work may not make us money in the beginning as things take time to build up, but I hope we can break even at least. I don't want to get into debt for it, so we'll make it work I'm sure :)

Sorry to hear about your friend.

I'm glad the thesis is away and I'm sure you are glad to see the back of it:). As CL says "exciting times ahead".

Took the pooch to the groomers on Saturday for her first ever clipping! We didn't want her over-heating if it's hot whilst we're away so thought it best to get her grimmed. She looks very nice and like a puppy again! I may have to get her done more often in the summer and leave her fur to grow over the winter to keep her warm! It was £26 though so not something I could afford to do every month really. Plus, she's near four and she's survived this long without getting trimmed!

We went to see a potential room for our private work on Saturday. An ex-work colleague uses it most of the time, but there are some days/hours that it's free and he would charge a reasonable rate for us renting it from him. It seems like a good way to start, and then if our private work picks up we could look at other offices in the same building to rent for ourselves. I've been building a website using Weebly, but it will cost us about £60 a year to keep it running, plus £12 a month for the domain name. I have enough in savings to get us started with these things.

Helped out some friends later on Saturday afternoon. They're starting a micro-brewery in the local town centre and have been doing lots of renovation/decorating to the building ready for it's opening later in June. We went round to help with some painting and sanding. I don't know how they're doing it all, plus working in the week. Due to seeing the office space beforehand we didn't get there 'til later, so hubby and I were only there for three hours and I was absolutely wiped out at the end! Was good to help them though, and it's exciting for them :)

Despite spending more on bits and bobs this month, I'm not going to go overdrawn before payday which is good. We'll do the food shopping this weekend and get stocked up ready for Cornwall. We're both so excited now and we're on a countdown. 11 days to go :D
