That’s what I think Beanie 😩 He will be on 40mg of Citalopram which sounds like a lot? Not sure as I’ve never been on any medication thankfully.

It does sound less than helpful SA.
There's a lot of info out there on improving our mental health without drugs - I wonder they didn't send him in the direction of some of those? They could work for anyone, though obviously some are more accessible to him than others. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/improve-mental-wellbeing/
Edited to add - it was clearly written pre-lockdown! However the principles still apply.

He was on 30mg before, started on 20mg. They’ve made no difference whatsoever, I think it’s down to the part of his brain that’s damaged not depression. The part of his brain that motivates you has gone. He’s been offered counselling but doesn’t want it. The GP said chemo stays in your system for years and causes all sorts of problems.Anyway, I went for my run at 6.30 am. It was quite busy with other runners and the road was a lot busier too - I suppose more people are back at work now.Glad I haven’t got to work today, going to enjoy the sunshine and stay in the garden most of the day.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

Doctors do seem to peddle ADs. I am sure for some they are helpful but in many cases I think it is so Doctors feel they are doing something. As you say SA it is probably more to do with the brain damage and his lack of motivation/self reliance which can impact on people's sense of self worth. The counselling would probably be more effectiveI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
